Coolant Pressure Testing Kit

Post by rbgosling »

Since I seem to be constantly chasing coolant leaks - I've now replaced the header tank, radiator (twice), radiator top hose clip, and I'm about to do the heater matrix - it seemed prudent to purchase a coolant system pressure tester.

Hopefully, I will soon have eliminated all the leaks, in which case this tool will just be hanging around my workshop seeing little use. So, if anyone wants to borrow it in the future, just get in touch...

Cheers Richard. I seem to remember when I had that problem that it was the short rubber hose at the back of the water pump.

Yeah, I've also found that one leaking in the past. Worth checking again - although it's unlikely to explain the significant puddle in my passenger footwell!

Have you thought about changing to Evans waterless - you don’t need pressure in the system for it to work - gives the coolant system an easier time.

I’m considering it, but I want the system leak free before I fill it with expensive coolant!

It's worth it. Mine is still leak free. Stops the expansion tank corrosion too. I had reported higher oil temps using Evans, but since correcting ignition timing that seems to have corrected too.
Just completed a high speed run down to Cornwall and oil temp reduced the faster I drove, 78C oil temp was max, even in heavy traffic. Ok it's December, but it's mild at 12C down here.
Only issue has been fan fails due to relay contamination with clutch fluid. I've wedged a plastic bag umbrella above the relays for now.
