Coolant bottle Pressure Cap

I know this is a time old subject.
But I have a 1987 Excel SE.
Does the pressure cap Go on the front of the coolant tank nearest the radiator or on the back.
I have just had some work done at the garage involving the coolant.
I cannot remember which way around it should be.
I will take a photo of where they go once I know for future reference.
I have looked at other photos of other car and it only seems to confuse me more.
