Okay, next Plan: Who was the Guy here with the Rover-V8?
Just kidding
But to be frank: I´m shocked, currently. I think I´ll take another Cup of Coffee and stare at the Block for the next coupe of Minutes...

There are lots of these engines about, but not many people do them themselves, so you may strike lucky and be near one of the other Lotus 9xxx engined-car owners who does. If you are then just knowing that can be good because you can sit and have a drink and chat through what's "different" about them compared to the ones you know.

Alright, all is ready now and I´m twiddling Thumbs, waiting for the Parts...
Anyone´s got some Photos of the Underside of the Engine Bay, where the Exhaust Manifold is? I want to start building the Header, but since the Engine is out I have no Idea how much Space I´ve got...

@Andy: Yeah, I´m relatively relaxed, because Lotus probably sold tens of thousands of these Engines and they rarely had an Issue with that Method... but I still can´t get over it... what is so complicated or expensive about using Liners with a Hat?

Oh, and I need the Torque Specs of the Head-Nuts. Normally I retighten Head-Bolts or Nuts after roundabout 300 Miles, but that would mean an awful lot of Work in this Case. What are your Experiences? Is it really necessary to retighten them?

The "newer" Goertz head gasket tends to compress a little more than the originals - I'll be tightening mine to 75 ft.lb for the central six studs, 70 ft.lb for the outer four and leaving it over night. I'll then back them all off by about a quarter turn and re-torque. Just engine oil on the threads. This process was recommended to me by a respected engine builder.

Peter, where can we get the Goetz gasket and do you know it´s thickness (before installing).
Many thanks,
Dave the cog.

Hi Dave. I bought mine from Lotusbits. I'll be unwrapping them soon (building two engines) so I'll measure the uncompressed thickness and post it up.

I remember seeing an article somewhere about someone trying to fit a pair of Lotus heads to a Rover V8 block! Looked really interesting!

Yes, I also saw that but the thing I saw was abit slack in its detail and I looked at a head gasket from both engines and scratched my head. I believe the engine was for an mgb and the owner was going to try for 200mph, but I dont think it was completed.

No - the story seemed to peter out about 10 years ago. ISTR the only thing in common was the bore centres.

AAAaaaAAaAAAAah!
Lotusbits just told me, they haven´t got any Cylinder-Head-Gaskets left - and that it is now difficult to get them!
WTF?!? *!$!!xXx?!? ___________ (fill in a couple of Curses and 4-Letter-Words here)
Okay... never panic early...
Have you got any other Adresses where to get them? Max told me I should contact Lotus directly, but I doubt that they are in the Mood to help here... since they turned into a No-Name-Brand that sells chinese Kids-Toys, now...
