Hi,
Having attempted to derust the accelerator cable support bracket from the top of my Excel SE airbox, it is beyond use, and looking like swiss cheese! I plan to remake it using some 10mm wide, 0.5mm thick sheet metal, as it is unavailable from the usual suspects unless you buy a full airbox. Being new to metalwork, I wanted to ask whether i should use steel or aluminium? The bracket is not going to be under a lot of stress, but I do need to be able to shape it (heat is available if needed). I suspect the original was sheet steel given how it has rusted.
Any thoughts on this are greatly appreciated!

Rings no bells with me either. My cable just passes over air box with no support.

Its a rather flimsy springy metal tongue turned over at the top, attached to the front of the airbag, stops the throttle cable flapping about under the bonnet, looks like steel, defo not aluminium.

Re: Making a new airbox accelerator cable bracket
My Excel also does not have the bracket, although there is a rivet in the top of the airbag where one could attach which agrees with the parts manual (42.01 item 45).
Looking at SJ web site I found this https://www.sjsportscars.com/parts-and- ... S0074Z.htm, it says is for the timing belt cover but the part number is the same as the one on the airbag, if your ordering other stuff it might be worth a punt, I'm going to add one to my next order just on the off chance.

Yes that's the one. My car still has one. Seem to be made from spring steel.AlSmith wrote: ↑Thu Oct 28, 2021 17:12My Excel also does not have the bracket, although there is a rivet in the top of the airbag where one could attach which agrees with the parts manual (42.01 item 45).

Re: Making a new airbox accelerator cable bracket
I think you might have the right part there and explains why I couldn't find it based on the description. Here are a couple of pics for those interested that do not have them on there's. Interestingly, I have a HC airbox on my SE, but in the parts manual on page 42.01A it is not shown on "89 MY on" drawing, only on the "Prior to 89 and 89" drawing, as part 45 (X026S0074Z). Given how cheap it is on SJ, I may just order one. Frustrasting as I just ordered a handful of small parts from them.AlSmith wrote: ↑Thu Oct 28, 2021 17:12My Excel also does not have the bracket, although there is a rivet in the top of the airbag where one could attach which agrees with the parts manual (42.01 item 45).

Getting really close to trying to start this car after 13 years stood still. Thanks all!
