Welding Split Exhaust Manifold

Post by Atking53 »

So glad I did not attempt this job myself. My tame mechanic just spent 20 hours removing the exhaust manifold 1/4 of a turn on the studs per day with WD40 in between to avoid snapping the studs in the head. After welding up the split and with new studs it only took 6 hours to replace. He said the Excel attracted a lot of attention on the hoist over the 2 weeks it sat there. The car is much quieter now but I might have to cancel that South Pacific cruise.

In my experience it’s easier (and much quicker overall) to take the engine out to do this.
