I have just seen on Harry´s Garage Youtube his report on the latest Land Rover Defender.
His test car is a petrol 6 cylinder which has an electrically driven turbo which cuts in at low engine revs to give greater torque. This unit spins at 50000 revs.
I believe the same electric turbo is used on the diesel version.
This thread on Re-Profiled Cams started off looking at ´Performance¨cams to increase top end BHP and still with street driveability.
Tim Engel has provided information on the 104 and 107 Lotus cams. It is to be noted that the Esprit Turbo uses two 107 cams, this to obtain better Torque sooner than BHP.
I suppose that in about 10 years or so I can pick up in a scrapyard a used electric turbo from a Defender.
But then there will be no petrol stations, and probably nor me.
Dave the cog.
