My excels throwing a wobbly
Ever since i had to kick my excel out the garage (as i no longer have one) it's been suffing minor niggles, an indicator failed due to water corrosion, and now one of the cooling fans has failed, and i get the fair fail warning light, question i can see the fan in question not working how hard is it for the novice, an i mean total novice to take it out an replace?

Easy job.
First, find your replacement (Ford Fiesta Mk I is ideal - Mk II to IV all fit, but you may need to change the plugs)
Next - remove the bonnet
Unplug the failed fan from the wiring loom
Undo the three nuts which attach the centre of the fan assembly to the shroud on the radiator
Carefully rotate and wiggle the old fan out
Carefully wiggle and rotate the new fan in, insert & tighten the nuts.
Now, BEFORE you do anything else - check that you can spin the new fan by hand - you may need to "adjust" the mounting arms to get clearance between fan and radiator.
Once that's done - plug it into the loom and do the "fan test" (i.e. short out the otter switch) to make sure everything is working,
Finally - re-attach the bonnet.
Whole job should take less than an hour.
