Headlight down, light on, ignition off

For all those wiring gremlins we love, this is the place to discuss them.

Headlight down, light on, ignition off

Post by DOC711 »

Hey Guys,
I have an issue with my 87 Excel. When ignition off, lights remain in the down position but come on. The light switch is also off.
Any ideas?

I'd start with checking the relay, it may have stuck. If it's not not, then check that the relay coil isn't still being powered.

Possibly water in the relay

I had the same problem. Lights had a mind of their own. As Stew says - water in the relay.

Thanks everyone. We had some massive downfalls over the last week and my car was leaking like a sieve. It’s very likely the wet relay.
