For all those wiring gremlins we love, this is the place to discuss them.

Instument panel lights out

Post by KevW »

Just wondered if anyone has come across this problem before.

The bulb in my oil pressure gauge had failed which I established by swapping the bulb with one from an adjacent instrument. I turned the lights off, fitted a new bulb and switched the lights back on to find all of the instrument bulbs were out. I immediately assumed I'd blown the 2A fuse, even though it didn't look blown, so tried a couple of new fuses to no avail. I still don't have any instrument lights. The exterior side and headlamps are still working fine.

I'd be grateful if anyone has any ideas

Turn the rheostat up?

Panel illumination fuse 9 is 4 amps not 2. Have you got correct fuse? Fuse 8 is 2 amps for rh side lights

Check the new bulb to see if its 12v and not 24v. I had one once that was 24v in a 12v box and it dimmed all the other bulbs on that circiut.
I REALISED YOU CANT LIVE WITHOUT A LOTUS!!! Until now

Thanks for your help chaps, all OK again.

I had replaced fuse no.13 "Instruments" and not fuse no.9 "Panel Lamps". Fuse no.9 was blown.

Top tip - when consulting the handbook read it properly !
