Ghostly goings on!

Looked out of the window after lunch to see that my lights had popped up on their own. Went out to check relays and fuses for water etc and all was bone dry. As soon as I turned ignition on they went down. Its never done it before so will keep my eye on it.

Perhaps they've morphed into vacuum-operated pods!

Strangely it did take me back 20 years to my eclat! I was lucky if they stayed down for 3 hours until I pulled out the pipe from the vacuum tank in the drivers footwell to the pods and glued the joins in the pipes together, then they used to last 3 or 4 days

Has anyone installed on an Excel a single Winking headlight, strictly illegal I suppose, but what other car can do it?
Could even be remote operated.

Dave the cog.

I worked for a business that was part of the Lucas group in an earlier life, making special purpose machinery.
We referred to such software gremlins as "Undocumented features". Strangely customers tended to see it differently

My car has on occasion performed this "undocumented feature", most recently in the past few days.
It wasn't until this evening that I realised why...

I had removed the car's stereo a while back to swap with one from another car. As it happened, I put the same stereo back in at the weekend but realised yesterday that I had mixed up the power cables (yellow doesn't go to yellow after all, it seems...) and it wasn't keeping the memory. So today I pulled it out to swap over the connectors - at which exact point the headlamps motored down, and have stayed down.

So, techno-bods - what is that all about?

Funny you talk about radio memory, I haven't touched the radio since ive had the car but sometimes the clock is way out and I have to reset it but can go weeks and be ok and then does it again! haven't got a clue why. the lights haven't popped up again since so have put it down to rain getting onto the motors or wiring and poss bridging wires to trigger them up, but would there be a permanent live at the motors to trigger them?

Not at the motors but there are relays and electronic modules in circuit, in the passenger footwell side.
I obviously spoke too soon; the lights were up again this morning. Ah well.

KKV re-assigned his head light problem to me a few days ago :( and I can give the following update.

Initially, leave the car unlocked and after a short time, the lights came up. If you locked the car immediately after a drive, the pods came up. As soon as I unlocked the car, the pods went down.

Late Friday night after dark, the car was on the drive, locked with pods up. I wanted to check the dash warning lights as during daylight, several looked to be very dimly lit and I was concerned there could be an earth leak. Looking through the window, the warning lights looked to be out, but I couldn't be sure. I unlocked the car, pods dropped down, and pleased to say the warning lights were not glowing :D :D . Locked the car and pods stayed down ( Oh thinks I. That's interesting. I bet they'll be up by the morning).

They weren't. :D and they are still behaving now. But who knows how long it will be before the next visitation.

I may be completely off the mark here, but it's almost like the action of unlocking / locking, an hour or two after the car was last used has reset something.

I've probably just jinxed it now :!: :!: :!:
