Headlight units

For all those wiring gremlins we love, this is the place to discuss them.

Headlight units

Post by carlp »

Hi
I just noticed the chrome is peeling off my headlight unit reflectors so it would be a good idea to replace them. Does anybody know if the original units are still available (at a sensible price) or can recommend an alternative?

Thanks
Carl

The originals aren't, and I don't know of a reasonable way to refurbish them but there are several posts about swapping out to standard 7 inch bowls and reflectors.

There are a couple of places that do headlight bowl resilvering, if your bowls are sound. Not the cheapest option.
The lens can be removed with a strong knife and some gentle prising.

I made these out of mini surrounds to allow a more common light to be used, a bit of a faff but uses original adjustment and no drilling. Works well and the black trim goes on as normal, but adds 120g per side
I kept pieces of the old bowl (30g) so i could try gluing them to some lightweight freeform wipacs at a later date. Anybody know the weight of these lamps please.
