Once ended up with a burnt nipple after trying this method on a landrover.
Long story, path of least resistance etc.

An interesting take on the concept of a body earth point!

ive got a set of those red plastic "things" that you push onto the plugs, then fit the ht lead to them. they have an LED inside that flashes in time with the spark. no flashing Led,no spark on that cylinder.

Angus, as it is now Monday please take us all out of our misery and let us know the cause and solution.
This may not help but is a comment: I recently had the reluctor Coupling Ring break up which meant I lost timing and still have not found a replacement, relying on a glued rubber washer trimmed to size to reset the reluctor position. As I use my Excel for pottering around and realising that our electronic components are now 25 to 30 years old I am considering going back to mechanical points system.
Dave the cog.

And the closest one to the correct answer is : RichardW
Must have been a bit of crud in one of the carbs. Richening the idle mixture and the putting it back to normal seems to have cleared it for now.
Carbs will be getting an overhaul at the end of the month.
(I'm going to blame it on fuel from a supermarket in Colinton that I had to use because the services on the Edinburgh bypass don't do fuel any more.)

That's peachy blaming someone else! I bet you put the wrong size fuel in ! 98 ron is bigger than 95 ron so obviously didnt fit through the jet sizeamarshall wrote:And the closest one to the correct answer is : RichardW

you might end up stripping the carbs down and totally cleaning them. I did mine without removing them from the car, just took off what I could without disturbing the linkages.amarshall wrote:b*m. It's doing it again and I can't get it cleared.

I suspect that's what it needs. Unfortunately, I'm at the Bailey next week, so someone else may get the fun of doing that.CHRISYD wrote:you might end up stripping the carbs down and totally cleaning them.
