One DHLA45 dripping into tube at idle

Belts, Plugs, Filters, Fuels, Oils, additives etc..... Told you this might morph into servicing and service items.

One DHLA45 dripping into tube at idle

Post by barbicaneclat »

Having a bit of an issue with the carburettors, which are quite freshly rebuilt (i.e. the problem is likely my fault, I know...) DHLA45s on my Eclat. Coming from the fuel pipe, the first set of carbs works fine, but the second starts dripping into the tube once fuel pressure has built up. It keeps dripping for a little while after ignition has been turned off as well.

There is no leak from the top of the carb, which is what I understand I would normally see if I had too much fuel pressure coming in or if the float height were incorrect - but I might be wrong.

Quick video showing the problem: https://youtu.be/8DvJa6f8Ptw

I was thinking of checking the incoming fuel pressure to begin with (though I've had the car run before with the same fuel pump and un-rebuilt carbs and didn't encounter this problem, I don't believe), followed by the more involved job of checking float heights. Any other ideas to start with? Is this very obviously some other problem?

That is likely to be incorrect float height or float needle valve not sealing.
You don’t normally see petrol coming out of the top of the carb - it overflows internally.

You were absolutely right - fixing the float height has solved this. I now have an entirely different carb-related problem, but will make a separate thread for that.
