BREAKING - 1984 Lotus Excel VARIOUS V8 CONVERSION PARTS
Breaking car as rebuilding it is going to cost three times its value. Genuinely upset as I loved driving it.
The following are some of the parts that may be able to assist some of you who are completing a Rover v8 swap.
All other parts are available. The car is located just outside Bournemouth, pick up of parts can be arranged. I work in London 2 days a week, so may be able to assist those that are further afield.
- New Door beams (currently fitted) but no older than 2 years. Can sell each or as a pair
- Rev Counter with a switch to change between 4,6 and 8 cylinders. Identical to the original, but normally found on a TVR 350i (which is what it came from)
- Barely used 110mph 3 3/8 digital VDO speedo (Analogue dial with lcd odometer)
- Pair of SD1 Lights (in good order) with holes drilled for drainage
- Custom made bottom stainless bracket for custom made 2 core radiator (suitable for performance rover v8)
- Rover Vitesse SD1 Twin Plenum gearbox. Tried tested, new oil. Provides a brilliant gear change. Fitted with new speed transducer. Legend has it that these where developed by TVR.
- Lightened flywheel with locating dowel drilled (so can be used with a TVR/Range Rover Cross bolted crank)
- Offenhauser inlet manifold (recently powder coated in black) with Holley 390 carb (freshly rebuilt with a Holley trick kit). Low temp thermostat fitted with new cover. Comes complete with stainless throttle kit and braided cable connection. Included and build with new studs, bolts, gaskets, Wizards of NOS inlet plate.
- NOS Fuel and Nitrous Solinoids with 40bhp jets.
- Nitrous Maximiser Controller
- 12lb Polished Nitrous bottle
- Polished low rise inlet with two 4 inch circular air filters fitted. Cost over $100 from America.
- Rear Differential rebuilt with all new bearings and 3.58 ratio from a Toyota Truck (this is the one that you want if you're running a low reving v8). This has been built by a local trusted Engineer.
- Custom made propshaft. One end is for the Toyota diff and the opposite an LT77. This cost over £400 to have made. It has done no more then 2000 miles.
- Complete Prism style headlamp conversion including black rings (essentially 7inch units)
- Nissan front brake upgrade. Using Nissan 300zx calipers, re-drilled 300zx discs (grooved) and braided hoses. These have done less than 30 miles since being fitted. I fitted all new bearings, mintex pads and had the Engineering work completed by a local trusted Drag Racer.
- Block hugger v8 manifolds with custom made y-piece, down pipe and back boxes.
- Rover v8 electronic ignition including Magnecore blue 8mm leads, coil, disi, roter, etc. All working and set up for a 3.5 Rover v8.
I have receipts to back up the majority of above. A small fortune has been spent amassing all these components over the years and only recently have I come to the realisation that i'll never finish it. There are loads of other upgraded parts that I can't think of right now that i'll add as time goes on.
All other parts are currently fitted to the car, but for sale. Let me know what you need!
Please message me for any further details/photos/quotation for the above.

Re: BREAKING - 1984 Lotus Excel VARIOUS V8 CONVERSION PARTS
Can it not be sold in current condition to complete by someone else? Sounds a shame to reduce it to parts after all your efforts.
I've had to admit defeat on at least one of my projects this year, too little time/money/inclination in changing orders.

Re: BREAKING - 1984 Lotus Excel VARIOUS V8 CONVERSION PARTS
I would love to, but it needs the following to complete
- Engine rebuild
- Full and complete repaint
- All new suspension bushes and shocks
- Retrim the interior
- New wiring loom (the previous owner has made a hash of it) Best to start fresh.
- 4 New Tyres
- Windscreen.
With all this in mind, i'd never get the cost of the replacement parts back, let alone half of that!

Sad... because the two pictures showed nothing serious which couldn´t be fixed and shocks and bushes are typical running costs on a classic car. If it is done... it will be fine for many years and manymany miles.
Which model year is it?

It was built in 84, but is registered as an 86.

Re: BREAKING - 1984 Lotus Excel VARIOUS V8 CONVERSION PARTS
Many parts sold, still a lot to go.....
The car has a set of standard Wheels with Bridgestone tyres on the front and cheap tyres to the rear. All with good tread.... Cheap set of road tyres to get a car on the road??
Please ask me what you after! I have a busy weekend removing parts for various prominent members on here, but please put your requests in! I still have all dash switch gear, controls, etc available.
One item that I forgot to mention are listed below;
- Holley "Blue Top" Fuel pump and solenoid that I have available. It even comes with Aeroquip and Holley fixings and a pressure gauge (perfect for a big capacity carb engine).
- Mocal Oil Filter Remote (with braided hoses)
- 13 Row Oil Cooler, braided hoses, Mocal 85 degree thermostat and yet more aeroquip hoses.

Yes, I have an uprated radiator on it's own stainless bracket system. I am unsure if it will fit a standard excel as I installed the retaining bolts for it and used it on a Rover V8.yroll wrote:Do you still have the radiator? ist it higherperformance thatn standard Excel?

I don't think that it'll work with a standard Excel Engine
