Not mine but needs saving

Post by bash »

This is going to get spared out unless someone saves it. There are at least 2 companies that will do that. Full leather interior ! Could be worth buying for that, swap over your interior ? Sell on ?

Interesting dash finish - I thought all the SEs had wood.

It’s not an SE Pete. No spats, non SE boot spoiler and the dash is the non SE post 86 black. Don’t forget the non SE remained in production after the introduction of the SE.

No I think it's an SE engine, just the red is worn off. Twin header tank too.

SE leather seats as well

Bash is right though - looks far too good to break. Hopefully someone will rescue it!

Sorry Stu, but it’s a non SE.

The twin tank was commonised between SE and non SE from about 86 as was the style of cam cover and with the paint gone it could have been red or black.
But a better indication of SE to non SE engine from 86 is the vacuum pipe set up on the carbs. If you look at this one it doesn’t have the vacuum pipes that the SE has.
As to the leather interior, I think this may have had its original interior replaced as if you look at the door cards, they have fabric inserts. A factory leather interior would have leather inserts.

Agree with Alan, when the SE was introduced only it had the HC engine. I have a Lotus brochure showing this. Indirect evidence is the absence of the infamous ‘drag spats’ behind the rear wheels on the standard car, which were supposedly fitted to limit top speed of the SE to one deemed safe for the prop shaft to handle. The non SE didn’t have those spats.
