1986 Excel SE

Evening all.

Due to an unexpected opportunity to own another of the cars on my list, reluctantly I am offering my Excel for sale.

1986 Excel SE
106k miles
Bucket loads of history
Calypso Red
Grey cloth interior

This was a Lotusbits car that Mike had gone through after 4 years storage and was using himself until I bought it last year. He described it as an excellent car for daily use and he is correct. He suggested the engine is very strong and I have found that to be the case. He carried out:-

Timing belt
Water pump
Otter switch
Water system flush
Plugs
Carb clean and tune
Discs and pads
Brake fluid and hard lines
Oil and filter
Air filter (standard)
Quilted headlining
Rear seatbelt angles in stainless
Battery
Immobiliser removal
Alignment

I have put 2k miles on it and have completed a list as long as my arm inc. solid state fuel pump, diff seals, exhaust etc etc...

It's a tidy, honest and original car all in all and could be further improved cosmetically over time.

Looking for offers in the region of £6000 and would be happy if it went to an enthusiast on here. PM me if any interest.

A couple of recent pics below.

Sad to see you go Andy - but keep us posted on what you do next and do visit occasionally! Thanks for the help you've given on this forum and the great story in Absolute Lotus.

The car looks great; someone on TLF was looking for an SE so I've posted the link to this ad on there.

Cheers, Richard

Thank you for the kind words Richard.

I don't intend to leave the forum; it's a fabulous resource with great knowledge and experience. I'm moving cars around with a view to getting the Elite project that I have always wanted.

Cheers

That's what I have done Andy - sold the Excel and bought an Elite to restore - really enjoying it. Let us know when you find one. Quite a few Elite restorations underway now :D

Will do Pete - in fact it's being inspired by you and Tony that has helped make the decision...

Andy, there is a guy called Clive Thompson who is looking for a nice Excel. He is waiting for his Forum application to be approved.
If you want to contact use clive.j.thompson@btopenworld.com

Just for the record, I have decided to keep my MY85 which is now on Spanish Historic plates and will be doing a lot more kilometers attending
local Classic Car Club rallies. Some good has come out of Covid-19 as the car here in Malaga was not in a practical selling position.

Dave the cog.

Thank you Dave.

I have another forum member viewing on Monday, if that proves unsuccessful then I'll certainly contact Clive, no problem.

Good to know you're keeping yours - sounds like a fantastic location to enjoy some warm, dry roads. Unlike here in the UK where we are 'enjoying' the usual cold, wet and windy August Bank Holiday weekend...

Cheers

The Excel sold today to a proper enthusiast and is going home to Norfolk, not far from Hethel!

I'm well chuffed it will be looked after and cherished as it should be.

Right, the search for an Elite project starts now...

Cheers

Good luck with the search Andy.
There seems to have been 2 or 3 "found" in the last few months, and in some cases what looks like a very good original starting point.
Have you thought about asking Mike at LB if he knows of any restorations that may have stalled?

Thanks Tony.

I will have a chat with Mike, a good idea I think.

I'm not in a rush and keen to get the 'right' car. Don't mind a fair bit of work but would like a period colour such as the met. brown of the launch car, must be my age I guess... :?

Cheers

I nearly bought a metallic brown one before i decided on the Monaco White one that I have now (came from Mike @ LB). Glad I chose the white one in the end.

Good luck with your search Andy!
