EBC yellow stuff - anyone with experience

Post by Alan_M »

So I’ve booked the SA onto the Castle Combe track day - should be interesting driving an auto on a track day as only driven manuals before!!

Anyway, thinking of a slight upgrade to front pads.
Struggling to find Mintex 1144, so thinking if EBC yellowstuff - anyone have experience with these pads in standard calipers and discs?

Got some in the garage waiting to be fitted before the Blyton day I have in June after only managing 5 laps before the standard ones were cooked last year. Similarly looked for mintex and couldn't find any.

Maybe a job for this weekend as will need to bed them in before they get used in anger.

Looks like I might try them before you as Combe is in May.
I’ve used standard pads in my manual SE and were fading toward the end of the session.
Will also be putting some higher temp brake fluid in.

The Mintex pads are only made in batches these days I think - you have to be quick to get them.

I like Mintex 1144 on the +2 and 'Europa' (Esprit brakes) for sprints and hill climbs. A company called QUESTMEAD, based in Rochdale may be able to help.

Thanks Andy. I’ll give them a call on Tuesday.

For anyone curious about my "Farmer Richard" nickname, that was the consequence of serious brake fade (standard pads) at the LotusExcel.net Croft weekend about 10 years ago...

I did swear then I'd never do another track day without uprated pads. Actually, since then, I've yet to do another track day (in my own car). It's way overdue.

Had significant electric issues with the Excel so had to take the Europa to the trackday instead so still none the wiser if they are any good!

I ended up managing to find some Mintex 1144 pads and certainly had no issues with brake fade. Can only compare against standard pads and they were quite an improvement over those. Also seemed no different when cold to standard road pads.
