Standard wheel offset

Post by Zaphod »

What is the offset on the OZ lotus wheels on a 1990 Excel? I know the PCD is 114.3 x 4 which is the same as the 16" rover 800 wheels (of Japanese origin.. as it shared many parts with the Honda Legend) just wondering what the offset is to see if my old 16" rover sport wheels are worth dragging out.. (99% certain the Rover center caps can be replaced with the lotus ones)

I just searched 'offset' and got 15 pages of hits.

I expect you should find your answer in there if you do the same

Workshop notes says "8mm positive inset". Front wheel drive cars are usually radically different.

Yes, the rover 800 wheels are ET50.. but.. does that mean they have extra material vs the standard excel wheels? if that's the case it may be possible to get that removed.. these are the wheels I have, if I can get them altered to get the correct offset they may look reasonable.. and give me a few more options on tyres

Jut had a look, and you'll need very thick wheelspacers to get the Rover wheels somewhat balanced on an Excel, Probably 1" or more

Assuming rims are the same width, a +50 ET FWD wheel centreline compared, to a +8 Excel, would sit inboard by 42 mm (online offset calculator).

Modern FWD hubs have a wider track within the wheel arch, so the offset is specified to accommodate the relatively-more outboard hubs.

In any case, FWD modern wheels never look right on the Excel. IMO the Excel looks best with a degree of dish on the outer rim. But that's just to my eye, obviously.

15" x 7" . . . . Rim Size, Inch
+23.3. . . . . . Offset
60mm. . . . . . Center Bore
5 x 4 1/4" . . . Bolt Circle, Inch
5 x 108mm . . Bolt Circle, Metric

When you ask about Offset, be aware that some websites or retailers will reply with ET. Offset and ET are NOT the same thing. Measured on the same rim, they'll give you different number values. Lotus used "Offset".

I assume you've quoted the 5 Stud Esprit dims above. Is the 4 stud Excel arrangement dimensionally the same?
