Dunno which is 'correct' but I perfer black ON silver, which suits the rim, makes it more integrated, more classy-looking.

The pics wiith silver on black centres show two versions, one Chapman era, one Wickens, which in itself suggests originality ... but the black on silver version, even if non-original, looks better IMHO.

I’m trying to get speedline badges made to match the original on the right- the printing seems to be faded gold, in thinking it used to be black, can anyone confirm? The background colour… was it brushed silver or did it have a tinted lacquer to make it gold’ish? Hard to tell from my knackered originals! Cheers!
I’m getting a black rim printed on the badge as I’m not using the hideous circlips, so it’s just to represent it being there.

Instead of the standard circlips, which easily damage the wheels when being removed, I am using these stainless wire circlips:
