Hi all,
New owner of GEB193N a 1974 Elite s1
Tyres are really very old and need to be all replaced but all I can find are Nankang on internet
Please - To provide rubber for my Elite can anyone help advise on a UK English supplier or even European if price if right to England, tyres for four wheels
Also, do I need to put tubes on too as the alloys are very old and may leak, although no idea if these original alloys suffer this. In my Jensen Healey Longstone fitted tubes for these alloys.
So - Wheels are standard and rubber is 205/60 R14 maybe there is a simple resize of tyre that fits on these s1 1974 alloys
Cheers
Neil

There's also a guy on TLF hoping to get Avon to produce some in a good modern compound.

Welcome Neil!
I've not heard of leakage problems with the original alloys. They also seem to offer better corrosion resistance than many wheels.
Keep us updated on your car!
Cheers, Richard

Hi
Catagorically inner tubes should not be used with any 60% profile tyres.
70% profile, fine.
75% profile fine
80% prpfile fine.
65% profile no tubes
60% profile no tubes
If your alloy rims are becoming pourous then there are some sealers that your tyre fitting shed should have. The problem is that the varnishy coating comes off with age and tyre changes. I think you should be able to get them refurbished.
I'm afraid we do not currently have the perfect 14" option
on the bright side there is a nice picture of my earlier Elite on here https://www.longstonetyres.co.uk/classi ... elite.html

There's no reason why the alloys need tubes.
Once the tyres are off and the valves removed, it will be obvious if there is a realistic chance the tyre bead will seat on the rim and seal. If it's corroded / furred badly, pretty straight forward job to smooth back. The other leak path can be the seat of the valve (rubber to Alloy interface). Two of my wheels are very corroded in this area, but there's a welder here in Northampton who can fill / repair damaged alloys and I've already spoken with them confirming they have the capability to build the valve hole up, and redrill / spot the valve seat.
That Reg plate looks familiar, but I can't think from where.
