The PO for my Excel included a brand new pair of these puppies: (drilled & grooved front discs).

Any opinions on whether fitting them is a worthwhile upgrade? if so, what pads would you recommend?
Thanks in advance,

Re: Fitting drilled & grooved discs
Hi Hodders!
Mintex 1144 pads offer more bite. In my opinion unless you plan on track use or really hard road use drilled and grooved discs are not necessary and on my car have proved to be a bit noisy. 4 pot calipers on the other hand are definitely worth considering as they give a more positive brake pedal with more feel.

I'm with Shaun on the Mintex pads. If your current discs are OK I'd keep the new ones on the shelf until you need them - as Shaun says unless you're going to do lots of heavy braking you won't notice any difference. It's all about shedding heat (and brake pad "gasses") as quickly as possible.

Thanks - will get the brakes looked over, the new discs did seem a bit OTT.

Shaun / Pete, do you have a part number for the Mintex 1144 pads? Thanks...

Re: Fitting drilled & grooved discs
Sorry Bryan - I had mine in 6-pot calipers. Might be easier to try and find them for the Toyota application?

Re: Fitting drilled & grooved discs
Brakeparts list a Mintex option for the Supra MA61 / Celica 2.8 - BPS 1216, currently on order, not clear which compound.
Unhelpfully the Mintex 'brakebook' catalogue does not list the Excel under Lotus and does not reach far enough back under Toyota Supra to include the MA61.
