Central locking Actuator
Any one know of a direct replacement for the central locking actuator?
The Relay lever appears to have stiffened up ( lack of lubrication on my part,) and burnt out the motor on the drivers side. . A previous owner appears to have put a 10A fuse in place of the 4A that should be there!
I've checked Lotusbits and Chris Neil, but there are none listed. The actuator plug has a Ford badge on, so i assume that's what it came off, but does anyone know which model and which year?

I agree with Mr Marshall on this one, it is shocking! A necessary evil
Those bits from Lotusbits come from somewhere.... a bit like being a kid and not wanting to kill chickens and cows, but really liking hamburgers!
It is all essential to keeping our cars on the road, though.
I wonder if this can stir up a "how many Excels are actually still intact from the 2200 odd made" debate. Some must have been destroyed in accidents, others cannibalised by owners like me.... others lost in barns and gardens.... accurate guess on numbers, anyone?

A long time ago on a forum far far away :
someone had dug up some info suggesting :
250 Excels still registered and on the road in UK
about 250 SORNed
and about another 250 world-wide....
Oh - and I wouldn't necessarily call it "evil" - some of them deserve to be put out of their misery - at least Mike does re-integrate bits to produce complete cars too.

New business opportunity for you Mike :
CKD Excel kits ?
Let's face it - if someone will pay for a kit to build a replica, there must be someone willing to pay for a kit for a pukka motor
(How many of the cars on here are in almost CKD form at the moment anyway? )

Dougie,
I have a brand new spare if you're interested. genuine Lotus, still in box.
Part no A089M6084F, fits from VIN no 89D2350 according to the parts manual, but don't know if it fits earleir versions. Plug has Ford logo and part no. Give me a call on 01442 824963.

Hi Guys,
On the subject of "numbers built..."
I bought for the grand sum of £2 a book "Lotus - The Legend" by David Hodges from a secondhand book shop. It is a good book that has lots of shiny pictures that cover the cars of Lotus over the years, and for £2 was a bargain!
Each model has 2 or 3 pages devoted to it, and the Excel is discussed along with Toyotas hand in the development.
It states, "This dual purpose GT or sports car was listed until the end of 1992, when the last 15 where built to bring the total production to 1327".
It also describes that the rear wing was revised in 1985 and 1989, "the first to cure a slight aerodynamic imbalance".
So, which number is closer, 2200 or 1300?
Chris
