Bonnet wont open

Post by shaunw »

My bonnet will not release on the nearside. The cable is attached and working but appears to have stretched or slipped to the point where it wont releass the catch sufficiently. Im hoping someone will be along shortly to tell me how to get the bonnet open.

Close the other side, then get someone to lean on that side & wiggle the other one while you operate the lever again.

go up and under the glove box. Feel for the cable and but some extra down pull force on it whilst some one else pulls the handle

Excellent advice Angus. Took a few goes but in the end your suggestion got it to pop open. Despite lubing the cable regularly it appears to be seizing right at the end of its travel, literally 2mm but its enough to stop it releasing.

My cable was getting quite bad until I oiled it thoroughly with a cable oiler. Had to detach the cable and pull it through under the dash in order to do this. Will talk on Sunday.

I think it will have to come out at some point. i lubricated it ( i thought ) thoroughly when i had the dash out but its stiffened up again.
