Radiator Undertray

Post by Zaphod »

I am at the stage of refitting the air intake undertray. However I did not remove it so am uncertain how it goes back on! I can see some holes which I assume had bolts through them on each side but is there a captive nut I can't see or do the headlights have to come out?

There should be two holes in the undertray that line up with the two threaded studs sticking out from the bottom of the radiator.
I can’t remember what other fixings there are - I think two more holes into captive nuts? I’m sure someone else will answer that part. I also think there were about 2-4 different undertrays.

it’s the other two holes that attach it to the unedersidenofnthe car I am wondering about, the captive nut side seems missing, or the bolts I have tried to use are too short! It also looks like the under-tray is a poor fit, this may just be a function of it being a hand built car, or does it all pull together when tightened up?

Still yet to fit it, I also am uncertain if I have the cam belt tension right as I'm unsure of the operation of the 'guage'!

Here are some close up shots of mine. The tray is actually in poor condition as purchased. it appears to be well ground so must have detached at some point

It was held inplace by some small self tapers and sealed.

That's been grounded a few time!, the self tappers are post Hethel, I can see the fixings that should be used however (one appears to be half missing!). It also looks to be a centimetre or so forward of it's correct location, the two 10mm nuts to each side of the radiator are the factory fixings I believe. My undertray appears near undamaged, is that normal?
