NEC Classic Car Show : theme & arrangements
Time to start plotting our stand for the big show.
Since the theme is about the joys of motoring/the open road what do you think about us concentrating on working cars / regularly used and abused, rather than concours specimens ?
We have a 7m x 8m space to fill so I think we could get 3 or 4 cars in and Mike T. has indicated that the first Excel might be available for this since it didn't get to Hethel last year.

I don't think the public like paying to get in to see heaps of crap quite honestly. Maybe an odd "project" vehicle or an original one with historical significance, but a stand full, no.

Re: NEC Classic Car Show : theme & arrangements
Hmmm - I wonder how "working cars" became "heaps of crap"...oh well....
anyway - quick update - Track Torque Racing have offered some support for this in the form of logistics and set dressing.
My thinking is to try to promote the Excel (and Elite & Eclat) as a car that can be used for pretty much whatever you want be it touring or competition, hence my suggestions of working cars rather than "show" cars.
Maybe we could have the first ever Excel at one side of the stand (in project condition) courtesy of LotusBits, then 2 or 3 well-used but tidy examples (1 of each of the major variants from narrow-body to run-out SE) and then a track-day or racing special at the other end ? (paging Danny & Ozzy !)

Err did that come across as harsh? Wasn't meant to, no bad hair days here! Angus isn't afraid of of straight talking and me neither.
I just think that the general public will be disappointed in something they perceive as having had little effort in presentation, no matter how proud it's owner is at the car having been reliably around the clock 3 times. As an example I like/love/adore Opel Monzas having owned quite a few, but the last NEC that featured them only showed heavily modified examples, one with the bonnet propped up showing en engine covered in WD40 to make it look "new". I spent about 20 seconds there.
Admittedly some of the trailer queens can be a little boring, ie people winning awards for XR3s with 3000 miles on the clock is a bit predictable. But by the same token if you want to see well used cars nip out to the car park.

Re: NEC Classic Car Show : theme & arrangements
How about one that is "a piece of crap", as in awaiting restoration. Push the theme just shown above how a car bought for a few hundred pounds which is given some TLC and a limited amount of cash can become a thing of beauty?
Re: NEC Classic Car Show : theme & arrangements
if you want to explore the race car avenue mine will be togeather and available...
Re: NEC Classic Car Show : theme & arrangements
Can I be perhaps objective and as I can't be there, and perhaps impartial.
If I was spending perhaps £50-60 (or more) for a familiy entry.
A fair bit on travel and possibly hotels.
I'd expect to see concours vehicles.
This is a Lotus stand from last year.
Excellent examples of the different series

I'd make the observation that everyone who has been involved in promoting the Excel and web site have done a stand up job. However, I can see this all being undone by what could be taken badly at a prestigious event.
One bad PR exercise........
Do a google search on NEC classic car show and you'll only see pristine cars.
I do however like the race theme for one of the cars.
Whatever you decide can I wish you all well for a successful event.
Just my ten penneth

Re: NEC Classic Car Show : theme & arrangements
I think the fairest way to do this is to call for volunteers and then attempt some sort of democractic process - possibly/probably at the Parts Fair.
If you would like you car to be considered for the stand at the NEC please PM me by 7th September.

Re: NEC Classic Car Show : theme & arrangements
Sigh - no cars volunteered and the potential guest of honour hasn't replied.
Shall I just cancel this and hand the space back ?
