Re: Elite 50th Anniversary - Banner / Display ?
Further responses received from the Grand Tourers post:
Leigh Greenham and two other Elite S2.2 owners want to come out to play.
Gareth Flanagan has sent me a Facebook message with a suggested design for the anniversary - I haven’t been able to copy it to send to you but will keep trying! I quite like it…
Alan Morgan (Club Lotus) is happy to organise an Elite lap at Castle combe. He is at Silverstone as well as LDC and has invited us to join them.
Cheers, Richard

Re: Elite 50th Anniversary - Banner / Display ?
Sorry guys I cant make this one (I'm at work (crisis)). Adam Wilkins did not reply to my e mail.
Are we likely to want to try and get permission to 'drone video' the suggested CC Elite laps (maybe suggest it's 'wedge laps' in chronological order to try and get Elites up front of the wedge train?)
I hope I can also make the 'Lotus Remembers / Winterbottom run' meet at Hethel when we know the date.
Thanks
Andy

How about recreating this set up at the NEC?

That's a great idea Stu, but where are you going to get that much cardboard and cellophane from?

The Classic British Weekend at LeMans
Following on from the Zoom meeting, I mentioned about the Classic British Weekend, which takes place on the Friday before the Le Mans 24 hour race - I assume that it will be Friday 14th June 2024. Its at the village of Saint-Saturnin a few miles north of Le Mans city
I have been 3 times (as a visitor) - according to the web site "classicbw.org" there are about 1,000 classic cars on display and about 8,000 people just turn up and meander around. Everything is "free" - just turn up with your car - if its a "classic" car you get directed to the sports field to display your car, and if its not, you go in another direction (we are in France, so its a bit of a muddle, but it always seems to work out in the end) and then one walks to see an amazing collection of cars, in a very relaxing atmosphere.
Have a look at the link https://www.classicbw.org/en/homepage/#event
Each year has a theme - Lotus was The Theme back in 2005 - Johnny Herbert and Stirling Moss attended - I have no idea what is is this year.
Even if you cant make it this year, its an event which I think should be ones bucket list.
The 1938 Pau Grand Priz
Towards the end of the Zoom, we got a bit off subject and Pete talked about visiting Pau in South France. I mentioned that I was interested in the Jewish driver René Dreyfus (No 4 car in the video) beating the Mercedes of Rudolf Caracciola - It was a hare and tortoise race - Hitler was so upset with the result that he had Dreyfus winning Delahaye confiscated - anyway have a look at the 2 minute video - what amazing ways to drive a car and the lack of safety measures https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LgiYUlEcTlE

Some of us are planning a face to face meet this evening at
Lakeside, Northampton NN4 7YD
7 to 7:15 ISH.
I think Richard is planning to post a zoom meet link as well for those unable to join in person.

Re: Elite 50th Anniversary - Banner / Display ?
Request for a photo of the Elite, Esprit and 72 in JPS Colours
I am in the process of trying to produce some "artwork" and would like the Elite to part of the Lotus wedge shaped cars of the 1970's. If completed, then I would like to display this artwork at the NEC Restoration Show as part of marking 50 years of the Elite.
Does anybody have some nice side profile photographs of cars in the iconic JPS colour scheme of this period, similar to the attached photo. Unfortunately, my photo are of pretty poor quality and very small in size - do any better photos exist and if so, can I have copy of them for my proposed artwork.
An alternative is that somebody knows an artist that could sketch the 3 cars for us.

The correct Esprit for the 70's was the S2 JPS car. The Turbo Esprit was never produced in a limited JPS livery.

50 year tyre covers
Its become a bit of a rush - so I'm afraid that there is no time for fine tuning and fettling.
This is the design that Graeme Jenner has produced for us, and very generously, at no cost. The printer is going to print the design - 6 copies, on Wednesday so that I can pick them up on Thursday and take them to the Show.
I will also put a post on the Restoration Show "topic", which will have more information, specifically related to the show.
