Mrs barker_001 (Sharon) and myself are definitely in for the meal. And maybe a glass or two of the local brew as well... ;)

Thank you for organising this, Richard.

I’ve been in touch with the Bird in Hand this morning and have requested The Chapman Room for the meal. This is plenty big enough and as the name suggests has strong Lotus connections.

Summary update:

If anyone would like to come along but hasn’t said so yet, here is the latest information:

Oliver Winterbottom’s memorial service is happening at 2.00 pm on Friday 6th August at Wymondham Abbey.

If you want to bring your Lotus - especially an Elite, Eclat or Excel - or simply meet other Lotus owners the plan is to meet in the car park of the Park Farm Hotel, Hethersett, NR9 3DL from 1.00 onwards, then depart for Wymondham Abbey to arrive in time for the service.

Following the service, there will be refreshments at the Park Farm Hotel.

An evening meal in Oliver’s honour has also been planned, for those who wish to attend, at 7.00 for 7.30 at the Bird in Hand, Church Road, Wreningham NR16 1BJ. A number of owners are staying over and there will be an optional short tour of the local area after refreshments and before the evening meal. Oliver’s sister and one of his daughters plan to join us for the meal, which is being held in The Chapman Room.

Could anyone who would like to attend the service and/or the evening meal contact Richard Woollaston at rwoollaston@gmail.com before Wednesday 28 July, as menu choices need to be with the restaurant and the family need an idea of numbers in good time.

For those travelling from further afield, there may be the opportunity to join a small convoy of cars travelling north up the A11, so indicate if you’d like to do this and we will provide location and timing.

An email with the menu for the evening meal has been sent to those who have registered, so if you think you should have one but don’t let me know!

Regarding rendezvous points, it looks like only Bash is travelling from T’north, and the rest of us from the midlands region. As Bryan and Alan are staying over at Duxford the night before, the options are to meet up either at Cambridge services or somewhere at the southern end of the A11 where it leaves the A14 - suggestions welcome. There’s no point using the motor museum at Gaydon as I think only Radar and I live west of that point.

Dress code is smart casual with the emphasis on cheerfulness. Red trousers aren’t mandatory but would be greeted with enthusiasm and affection!

I’ll post this on the Facebook group also.

Cheers, Richard

Ok I’ve found the address/ postcode of the services suggested by Bryan where we will meet. It is actually on the A14 before you turn off on the A11:

Newmarket services
Newmarket Heath
Newmarket
CB8 0XG

It is about 50 minutes from there to the Park Farm Hotel, so I suggest we aim to arrive there from 11.30 to leave at 12.00.

If anyone wants to add stops before this please do so - I may not join as prior experience indicates my wife may not quite be ready to leave on time. Hence the padding in the timings!

Cheers, Richard
