I've held off until now, but it's looking like I'll be free on and around 6th Aug, so high probability I'll be on the Midlands loop from around Northampton / Kettering front.

We've now booked into the John Barleycorn, a pub / B&B in Duxford for Thursday night, so will be joining the convoy somewhere around Cambridge on Friday morning. We've stayed there before on the way to Lotus 70, it's a really nice olde worlde pub with comfortable accommodation. Apparently it was a watering hole of Douglas Bader and his contemporaries during WW2, there is some memorabilia in the bar. Really looking forward to it.

Any further thoughts on a group booking near Wymondham for the Friday night?

The Bird in Hand has a few rooms available at £85 here: https://www.tripadvisor.co.uk/Hotel_Rev ... gland.html

Sounds a good venue so I’d suggest that anyone who wants to stay over books now as there is free cancellation up to 3 August.

Looking for ideas for the mini-run after the service - up to the Broads perhaps? I don’t know the area so suggestions welcome.

I have been wrestling with getting my Alfa back on the road for the past couple of weeks so once the final part arrives later this week I will be able to refocus on this event!

Cheers, Richard

Thanks Richard, just booked into the Bird in Hand for the night of the 6th.
Concerning the mini-run, I don't know the area either, but what about Brundall Marina, the erstwhile home of Moonraker boats? It looks to be about half an hour from Wymondham, and of course has a link with Oliver.

I’m also now booked in to John Barleycorn for Thursday and Bird in Hand for Friday. I’m going to have to be careful or Bryan will think I’m stalking him 🤣

There's at least 4 of us now (including Mrs B..) so I feel safe again!

I've booked a table in the JB for 9pm too, will give them a ring nearer the time to advise we'll be arriving fairly late. It's sad that we've lost Oliver, but this has the makings of a great weekend in his memory.

Richard,

Any thoughts on what might be an appropriate dress code for the memorial service? I'm conscious that it is a celebration of a life well lived rather than a funeral - but equally we need to be respectful. Well, that and Mrs B is always looking for an excuse for a new outfit! Thanks...

So if we can confirm we could do a block table booking. Is there anyone else want in ?

Hi bash,

I’ll be talking to The Bird this week about numbers. Oliver’s sister and possibly his daughters may join us, also Mike Kimberley, and Simon Freebley who’s helping out with arrangements. Then there may be other local people. So I plan to book quite a large table or room with the option to confirm final numbers nearer the time. There may we’ll be 20+ of us.

Cheers, Richard
