Re: oil leakage from .....?
Don't worry about the headlining, it's one of those very unusual jobs on the Lotus, that is in fact less difficult than it looks. Have a look at the posts, be careful about the adhesive, I cannot remember what I used but it's on old posts somewhere, that was a couple of years ago, it's under a cover...

Re: Accelerator Pumps
This is exactly what happened to mine, the arm on the rear carbs, didn't move at all. It's really easy to fix. remove the cable, unscrew the top of the carb, making sure that you do not catch the float in the gasket. remove the pin holding the foat, (it only goes in/out one way). Then remove the big...

Re: Stretching dash leather
I think, it's just glued in, but cannot quite remember. It can be removed with the windscreen in situ, but it tucks under the back of the dashboard, which isn't the easiest job in the world, but not impossible. Note. If you do take the dashboard out fix a peice of 2X1 wood along the bottom edge and ...

Much simpler, braze 22mm brass nut into radiator, this then takes a std ford/VW sealed sensor.
Route via fuse and relay to battery, that's it, fit and forget.!!

Re: When to change gear?!!?!
I know that these days, and bearing in mind the cost of rebuilds, it may be different, BUT.......
With all the Lotus cars I've had/driven since I was 18, (42 years ago),
I've always changed at the red line or rev limiter, whichever comes in first!!!!!!!!!

Re: Cylinder Head Core Plugs
You are right, skimming is now generally used to correct a warped head that the head gasket can longer get a seal on. it will raise the comp. ratio but these days with big valves and non-safe engines, you have to really careful, how much you take off 'cos the valves will touch something. Just to cla...

Re: those bloody headlamp pods...
New bobbins are only about £3 each, and they fix with a couple of countersunk pop rivets. I may have some left! Replace bolts with stainless allen headed cap screws, so they are easier to get out in future. I've got loads of these if you want, an advantage working for a food Company, everything is s...

Re: those bloody headlamp pods...
Oz, The "hinges" that the pods use are in fact the threads of steel bolts passing through alloy bobbins. The motors lift by rods with nylon push fit connectors which are effectively self lubricating. Try some WD 40 through the bottom access, and see if it improves things, if it does it's headlamp ou...

Re: Stretching dash leather
Yep Gliptone leather conditioner, small amounts over time will soften the leather and make it pliable again. Don't be tempted to dump a load on though, one of my seats suffered a bit when I did this, ans it disrupts the dye, (reciprocity failure!!!). Because my SE had been sitting in a field for thr...

Re: bumper conversion...
Don't forget Ozzy, that the bumper is not GRP, it's plastic, and flexes a lot more than GRP would.
It will have to be rivetted or bolted,I don't think that GRP will bond very well directly to it.

An interesting aspect of the Toyota LSD, on the 2.8i Supra, is that in outside appearance it is IDENTICAL to the normal diff. the only difference is a plastic sticker saying "use LSD oil only), this is special stuff (forget name) that I had to buy from a Rolls-Royce dealer 'cos the BMW dealers price...

Re: Stopping a car with a jammed accelerator
I agree, should be no problem, "old people" like me were a lot more used to car failures, so just coped with them. I regularly used to seize VW engines, dip clutch, brake, swear, std. procedure. ditto, my first Lotus S3 Seven. Jammed throttle a few times no problems, igntion off, brake. Worst failur...
