Re: Aircon Condenser

I’m in Sydney and found that a Holden Commodore from mid ‘80s was a perfect fit with outlets in exactly the right places Any part number details? Sorry i just wandered around the wrecking yard with my rusty Lotus one under my arm until I found one the same I recall it was a commodore, that’s about ...

Re: Engine sealants

Sorry my bad, Not permaseal, For cam box to head, I use permabond A136 /loctite 504 or equivalent. The red stuff. It’s not quite zero thickness, from memory you need to do valve clearance shimming “dry”, compensating for its minimal thickness when you do the final assembly.

Re: Engine sealants

Depends which type of 9 series motor we’re talking about. Both use permaseal for cam carrier to head joint, which compresses to a pre-determined thickness. As for the cam covers, early 907 saddle types need a sealant like silastic, but the later 912 types don’t need any sealant in my experience, jus...

Re: Aircon Condenser

Evening all, Does anyone know where I can get an aircon condenser. No luck at Lotus or SJ who were last know stockists. I've tried ordering the Hella part number on amazon and its NLA and nowhere on ebay either. Alloy radiator manufacturers can't do them (if you understand condensers, you'd know wh...

Re: Steering column to rack rubber dust cover

I bought them but never fitted them, they are in the glove box. Daunted by the job I guess. I just pack a little more grease into that exposed bearing every year. Will measure up and report back.

Coolant tank source

Hi all

My coolant reservoir (later twin cap style) has finally given up the ghost, after many repairs over the years. So a new alloy one is needed. These are pretty pricey but SJ looks to be the best value, has anyone found a cheaper or better source? Robert

Re: Dash illumination filters

If you wanna stick with the original T5 bulbs they are as cheap as chips from eBay/ China ($A1.00 or thereabouts for 10 incl postage).

Corolla models circa 2000 (eg AE112) use the same little green hoods. Easily sourced from wreckers

Re: Gear knob

To explain overdrive I find it easier to think purely in mechanical terms. Gears 1-3 involve a smaller gear on the gearbox input shaft driving a larger gear on the output shaft. Gear 4 (in almost all cars) involves the same sized gear on the input and output shaft or 1:1. Gear 5 or overdrive involve...

Re: Clutch-kit Excel early models

I went to an old school clutch and brake place and they rebuilt the pressure plate and supplied a new driven plate which as I recall was from a Toyota Hi-Ace of the same era.

Re: draft control (v27.2b !!!)

Yes I did this many years ago, that window surround channel is just made for a rubber seal. Makes closing the door a bit harder but it’s a worthwhile mod, less wind noise and no water ingress.
