I didn't know it was a fault?
Just no damping in the electrical reading?

Re: Speedo VDO question
Thanks Bash,
By the way. If your dealer cannot get the part I found this Japan site with the lowest price. Did not try it as with Corona it would take a while. But could be interesting: https://www.amayama.com/en/cart?region=118¤cy=826

Re: Restauration result of a Lotus Excel SE
Thanks for the nice words everyone: @Marcus, As AFR I use Zeitronix from EFI-Parts.co.uk It is very fast. So for idle speed you can distinguish which carburetor has which AFR reading and adjust it. I think there were only a 49 LHD Excels? Can someone confirm? @Peter, Thanks for the info  ... W...

Re: Loads of work done.
Wow, that's a lot of work done.. And in detail. Nice... When using a 1K paint I can advice a paint which contains a rust converter like Rustoleum Combicolor https://www.rust-oleum.eu/product/combicolor-original . When parts are not 100% rustfree (even after blasting small particles stay on the part)...

Restauration result of a Lotus Excel SE
At last during the lock down I made some work of completing the restoration of my Excel. I did a lot of work already and replaced/refurisched nearly everything what was NIO.. interior, brakes, engine parts, carbs cam belts... nearly everything. But I must admit I did not drive the car a lot during t...

Re: Speedo VDO question
Some update here: - I bought the SJSportscar Speedo A089N6013F which is not the right one but just gives a smal % deviation. But then after a month it died again.. Seems it was not the Speedo this time but the speedo-gear in the gearbox that has gone bad. Part of the gears was gone??? I could not fi...

I did several glasfiber bodies repairs and it is only useful to cut a piece if the shape is completely gone like the corner of the car or other specific shapes.

Re: Oil Change Advice
If the purpose is cleaning the engine you can add an engine flush before changing the oil. But at a normal oil change and driving there should be no oil sludge.

Re: Lotus Excel leaking sunroof
Hello Duke, Had same problem with other car. Cheapest solution is taken out the sunroof and replace with an other one bigger/same size. You sometimes find these old sunroofs, new in package, on auto jumbles as I did or internet very cheap. Yes it will be some search. Filling the hole is possible.. w...

Re: silly prices being asked
Yes prices are going crazy here over the pond. Especially for LHD.
I saw some Excels LHD in very good nick for +-25000€. And they stay for ages on the net.
But the rule is still here: "The price is what the nut want to give fore it" (or something like that translated from Dutch)

Re: loss of spark ignition
I've got also the 123ignition... and satisfied with it. But indeed as Kev said I would also diagnose the problem to start with: 1- Does the fuel pump work? Is it ticking when pressing throttle before starting the engine. Or loosen a fuel-line if it has pressure. 2- Do you have spark? Remove a lead a...

Re: Paint Job Cost
Well my Excel just came back from the painter. Set me back 3500€ and I dismantled the car myself. Only the windows stayed in. All other stuff removed rubbers, bumpers, trimline. etc..; I have to go back for further detailing and polishing some dust spots out. Must say I'm pleased to see her "as comi...

Re: Leather Rear Seat Repair
Tony, very clever indeed. I had also a leather shrinkage on the dash. But this was only solveble by a re trim. So lessons learned. Always take care of the leather an regularly feed it especially the parts exposed to the sun. There are products to make leather soft again. But to my experience it work...
