With that damage to the pulley I suggest you inspect the Woodruff key and it´s seating in the shaft. Any slight damage and you need a new shaft, no point removing the sheared bolt.

Re: Rear Suspension Spring mounts
The SJS seats I bought, similar to yours, also would not fit so I trimmed down the polyurethane to fit the spring internal diameter,
This does not affect how the seat functions.

Re: Oil pressure relief Valve
Many thanks Pete, I will dig deeper. I seem to remember now that there is a cap in the housing under which will be the valve.
The Manual does not show the valve.

Re: My Quandary; Change to Excel?
I also have arrived at an age where heavy work like engine removal takes double questioning. Lying on your back is not good for our bones. However, and having had an Elite, if you got some keen yougun to lift the engine (and gearbox together) and remove the diff you will probably still enjoy fixing ...

Re: Coolant Expansion Tank Repair
Just a thought.
If you can clean the inside of rust a bit, you can use a resin coating inside to form a continuous bag.
After all, the water leak comes from the inside so plugging from the inside is better.

Oil pressure relief Valve
On an extensive oil change including removing and flushing the oil cooler, puchasing the correct filter with non-return valve, I decided to replace the Oil Pressure Relief Valve Spring (A907E1323F at SJS) But I believe this is not for a relief valve as we do not have one, it merely maintains the dis...

Sump Plug removal
Just done an oil change and encountered a brass sump plug which refused to loosen due to previous damage to the head flats. Stilsons simply chewed up the brass even more. I ended up drilling a hole through the head but even an old drill bit simply bent. I then used a masonry drill with stronger stee...

Re: Driveshaft noise and hub carrier movement on rotation (Eclat)
More thoughts. The hub carrier appears to move inwards suggesting play along the driveshaft and UJ´s. The UJ´s take quite a pounding in normal uase and are a common failure so well worth very close inspection. While out it is well worth changeing for new. I believe there are available heavy duty UJ´...

Re: Electric PAS pumps
The steering when used needs an immediate response. I assume the electric pump would need to be working before the steering was activated. Also when you use the steering generally you are not on full throttle to obtain maximum power. And what is the total weight of an electric system compared to nor...

Endoscopes for mechanical inspection.
I am looking to buy an endoscope for examining those mechanical parts that previously meant serious dismantling to investigate. Therefore what experience do Forum members have and what recomendations/sources are made? Also any bad experiences with equipment which never worked and no guarantee of a r...

Re: Seat Belt bolt sheared
As a start is the bolt rusted in or just tight? Not a dealership suggestion, but as the bolt works in shear and does not rely on 100% thread integrity (tension) with a small hacksaw blade hand held in an 8mm pilot drilling you can now cut through the remaining bolt wall to release the existing load ...

Re: Seat Belt bolt sheared
Just a long shot. I recently bought some Bosch drills (made in China) which could not drill through butter. I managed to get a set of high grade drills, probably German made, as compensation. A huge difference. I have never managed success with extractor tools, probably for the same bad quality reas...

Re: Carbs the squirty bit.
Duncs, I have dug out a Dellorto document dated May 1969, in English and edited from Dellorto in Milano. It has a section on Acceleration Pump Calibration. Basically it explains how to measure the fuel flow produced by having the Carburettor off the engine, with a fuel reservoir 20 inches above the ...

Re: Carbs the squirty bit.
Des Hammil covers the Dellorto very well in practical terms. If you want to get deeper into Theory and separately Maintenance/Tuning look up John Passini on Weber Carburettors. His editions are now 50 years since first published but nothing has changed, nor will for carburettors. The weber accelerat...

Re: LHD Excel - £35000
Another spot is the single cap coolant reservoir. As the car was Europe targetted I do not think Federal requirements were considered. Perhaps the interior trim was a complete SE retrim spec, including the SE badge on the boot. A further telltale on the engine would be the distributor, diaphragm or ...
