dashboard removal, tools bits & other things I'll need
Further to my previous post, does anyone with experience of removing the dashboard know of any useful tools I may need, curved spanner for awkward nuts, bendy screwdriver, that sort of thing? Also I don't at present have a copy of the parts manual, does this show an exploded view of the dash? Lastly...

To cut a long story short, the good news is there's nothing wrong with the compressor (I thought that was the problem) :D The bad news is that the return to the compressor is non existent which according to the aircon guy is nearly always caus...

Re: gear knob again
Thanks Kev, spookily the top picture showing the original knob is my car. Photo was taken by the previous owner when he put it up for sale. Unfortunately the gear knob doesnt look as good in the flesh as it does in the photo, ditto the dashboard laminated panels. The rest is pretty much as g...

Count me in Matt With regard to price, probably up to 100.00 for the pair? Any more than that would have me wincing I think.

Re: A pillar trim removal
Thanks a lot for the detailed reply John. Unfortunately some of what you say needs to be done is a bit beyond my level of competence. I could probably make some, but I'd be struggling to make them that good I think. Not only that, with a full time job and 2.5 year old daughter it would litera...

Re: gear knob again
I quite like that. Not at all 'chavy'. Some of them look ridiculous these days. I definitely want a round one as the current one is a joy to use.
Thanks for the pic

Re: gear knob again
You wouldn't have a pic of what it looks like would you Jerry? I'm willing to suffer discomfort for the sake of style 8) Seriously though, The car is kept in a warmish (central heating pipes run through it) garage so the heat / cold will only be an issue if the car is left out for any peri...

Does anybody know if the ball shaped chrome gear knob that Club Lotus sell fits the Excel? Very helpfully there is no information on what cars it will fit and no information as to whether its universal.

Re: A pillar trim removal
Thanks for taking the trouble to do that Matt. They look very good, possibly better than the originals! I may contact John and see if he's willing to make me a pair presuming he still has the moulds.
BTW any idea why he fitted them in the first place?
