Re: foam filers - erm
Personally I wouldn't go with any sort of foam filter on a Lotus 9xx engine. They can easily have a flame back situation, in a normal paper filer that has a nice long tract that's not too bad, but a foam filter mounted like the ones I've seen will simply burn. And we all know what that leads to on ...

It depends where the pressure is measured, if it's before the filter, then filter size could impact oil flow to other areas. If it's measured after filter then a given pressure will result in the same oil flow to other parts of the engine as if it had a larger filter. It seems from the manual ours ...

I think the question that needs to be answered is who supplied Lotus with the oil filter in the first place? They certainly don't make them in house. I don't think that would be of much help, unless it was a standard type without any modification for the Lotus application. If it's a 'special' to Lo...

I've had starting problems twice in my 13 years of ownership. Once it was the earth connection on the block, as per Steve's suggestion. The return current was using the speedo cable as an earth, and it melted the speedo's innards  The other time it was the start relay, one of the bank of rela...

The Lotus filter is larger (much) and so I guess the no return could be holding more oil. As I see it, a bigger filter means a higher flow rate through the filtering medium due to greater surface area. If the flow rate was too low, it could mean that the oil doesn't reach the extremities of the the...

Can you give a link to the Yahoo Lotus 4 seater forum? (I've tried looking, but haven't found it). Thanks.

Cambelt tension again.
Another extremely interesting post by Tim Engel on the Yahoo Lotus 4 seater forum. This was written in reply to someone who was concerned that his cambelt was too tight...... The belt tension increases as the engine temperature rises... it does get tight when hot. Always check the tension with the e...

Depending on the age of your car, you may have the "engine management" series of valves which increase ignition advance qute dramatically when the engine is cold, from around 10 deg BTDC to around 30 deg BTDC at tickover ... This temperature operated valve disengages at around 60 degrees (water tem...
