Re: First job jobbed - 2 more found !!!

Sounds like you're well on your way with the bushes Tony. It's something I want to look at on mine fairly soon, but my local specialist / MOT man says there's not a lot wrong with what's on there - although I'm sure some fresh rubber / polybushes would improve things. Can I ask what you are painting...

Blaupunkt Bremen SQR 46 DAB Radio

Following my earlier upgrade of the original speakers, I bit the bullet and bought a Blaupunkt Bremen SQR 46 DAB Radio. All fitted and working, and very pleased with the result. https://ams03pap001files.storage.live.com/y4meJDobKP6tltF72SYxo4Po5L1sipogSzByGUXEVRYhWU8dF0oJ_YoqE6_JF_Rgw8kehw9YFtI87iGv...

Re: New Member from Texas

Welcome Phil! I'm sure you'll enjoy the Excel experience, especially after having Supras. This forum is definitely the place to start when looking for information, although the Facebook groups are great for immediate contact, they are quite transient in nature and posts from the past quickly become ...

I think the one in the photos was yellow from new. C135TPD was the one that was originally red but now yellow. It belonged to a friend of mine and at one stage (2007) I was looking at buying it. It has, I understand, passed through a couple of owners since then.

Re: Speaker Replacement using Original Grilles and Mounts

Thanks Steve. Somebody on one of the Facebook groups fitted the 3.5" Alpines too. They improved on the fitting by adding 3 blobs of what looked like silicon adhesive to help hold the speaker in and prevent any vibration - a blob each on the silver spring loaded brackets and another on the speaker fr...

Re: Low Batt - one to watch

My key has happily been able to slide in and out of the barrel at any position since I bought it - at the time 22 years / 125k miles old. Whenever I take it to a garage for MOT / tyres the mechanic always takes the key back to the ACC position then removes it, even when I try to explain about the l...

Re: ANNOUNCING THE WINTERBOTTOM RUN 2022

Sharon and I would like to add our thanks to all those involved with organising this weekend and making it so special - Richard, Simon Freebrey, Tony Donnelly, the Bash family (for the rally plates), and the irrepressible Richard Parramint at Classic Team Lotus. It really was a trip to remember, and...

Re: Speaker Replacement using Original Grilles and Mounts

The 10cm is the overall diameter of the speaker. Just as important is the spacing between the screw holes, which is slightly less - although as you can see on this diagram, the screw holes in the speaker are slotted so you have some leeway. Most 4" / 10cm speakers I looked at were very similar, it w...

Re: Speaker Replacement using Original Grilles and Mounts

Looking at the distance to the ashtray and the bottom of the door compared to mine, they look slightly bigger and have 4 mounting screws behind the grilles. That being the case, the larger (and better sounding) 10cm Alpine speakers may fit.

Re: Speaker Replacement using Original Grilles and Mounts

Thanks Richard, you're right about the Excel cabin not being the quietest of environments - that's one reason I didn't want to spend a fortune. Strange that your front grilles are different - but equally strange that mine didn't match front to back either - the rears being metal mesh and the fronts ...

Speaker Replacement using Original Grilles and Mounts

I've just fitted a set of Alpine speakers to my Excel within the original grilles, thus maintaining the original appearance but gaining some modern power and clarity to the sound. In fairness the original rear speakers weren't bad, but the front ones, an awkward 3.5" size, were shot. So I bought a p...

Re: Two into one connector?

I haven't used them on the car (yet!) but I swear by these heatshrink solder splices in many other applications - approved for aircraft use so definitely not a bodge! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7Wh5gM8GM70 If you pick the right size it is possible to feed 2 wires into one end, and one into the ...

Re: 2 Buckled Wheels!

I had my OZs straightened by Renowheel too, they have been OK since. The buckle in mine was actually noticed by someone driving behind me! I've heard of the Speedline wheels cracking on the inside of the spokes. It seems as if Lotus over-reacted to this and specified the OZ wheels to be made...
