Re: engine lifting attachment points
Quick question - If you do remove with the gearbox, which bits of the gearbox mount do you need to undo? The four bolts at the bottom of the mount, which are easy to access, and hold the mounting rubber to the crossmember? Or do you have to remove the crossmember itself, which looks like it will req...

:) Yes some of them were prone to rolling,The Messerschmitt as you say was more stable it was the more common one & cheaper dont know why it was called the Messerschmitt  Ray My father had one, and it still wasn't that stable - he managed to roll it on a corner and came to rest upside down aga...

Re: thinking of buying an excel
Keep looking. You should find an Excel in that condition for about half the price - the seller is being unrealistic. There's less than 300 left on the road so you should expect to wait and / or travel to find the right one at the right price, but you will.

Re: Practical Classics Classic Car & Restoration (NEC) 31/3-
Will solvents for parts cleaning present any problems on the stand (flammable liquids)? - thinking about the engine build - I get through loads when engine building. What solvents do you use Pete? So far I've just used petrol (drained from the tank), but all I've cleaned has been the carbs. Should ...

Re: Practical Classics Classic Car & Restoration (NEC) 31/3-
If there's room we can put on my engine-less car too - you said you knew someone local who could lend me a trailer? Might need to give it a clean and pump up the tyres! A table would be useful to put on the bits of engine that have been detached, particularly if I'm going to do any active work on an...

In that colour scheme it's easily mistaken for the Spy Who Loved Me Esprit, to anyone but a Lotus or Bond super-fan.

Re: V8 Excel person
Hi - and thanks to the multiple eagle-eyed members who have suggested I might be interested in the engine!! In principle, an excellent idea and I would be interested. Unfortunately, my continued inability to sell my old house in Aberdeen (mortgage cost c. one used and unrestored Excel engine per mon...

£280 new, £120 for a good used one, from Lotusbits. I think £600 will be sufficient.chrisw2811 wrote:Not sure how much a replacement item would be.

Re: Insurance Valuation?
I'm with Lancaster - not had any issues with them, my only minor quibble is having to submit an Agreed Value form with fresh photos every year which is a mild PITA, in the past with other insurers the valuation has remained valid for three years or so. Of course, I usually try to take nice photos wh...

Ah yes - hiding in the fuel system menu, rather than Induction System where you think it would be! And there's the white nipple, sitting below an airbox with no hole for it.

Re: Lillith's Engine Rebuild - Airbox Connections
No sign of the purge pump at all in the parts manual, but I'm sure a normal bit of silicone hose of a diameter that fits and a length that reaches is all I need.

Ah, so the brown hose is supposed to be just where it is, the other is MIA!

Re: Lillith's Engine Rebuild - Airbox Connections
Thanks Angus, that all makes sense. The white jobby in the middle here I take it is the air pump. The brown hose must be the one that should be, but isn't, connected to the port on the air box. I'll take a look and see where it goes, probably nowhere! Might be worth replacing it with something less ...
