Re: Fill Gearbox..
I've been checking my Excel handbook for the correct spec gearbox and diff oil. The hanbook states the gearbox takes 75W/90 GL5 oil and the diff requires "SAE 90 GL5".
Am I right in thinking this means the same spec oil is suitable for box and diff?

Re: We know them as Excels - But what does DVLA think?
My car was both built and registered in 1992 and is listed as an Eclat, not Eclat Excel.
Re: cleaning
Why are you all faffing about removing rust ? There is a special paint called Hammerite. All you have to do is paint it straight onto any rush after tickling it with a wire brush and all your problems are solved !   To think I used to spend my hard earned on that rubbish as a lad. I ...

Re: Breather pipe- bumper in place?
I found it possible to feed the new pipe from the inside of the boot down behind the bumper so that it came out under the car. It still allows the fumes to vent and I prefer that to using the original exit hole in the bumper. I think it's neater than having a pvc tube poking through the bumper. I al...

Re: Been looking for an elite
This might be of interest James https://www.lotusexcel.net/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=12427 I've never owned an Elite but I do know with features such as inboard rear brakes, non-galvanised chassis, vaccum operated pop up headlamps etc. they take more looking after than the later Excel. Having said they ha...

Re: Door Window Frames
If I remember correctly when Angus found the remaining old new stock steel sections to have the new door frames made up that was it - there were to be no more due to the prohibitive cost of tooling up. I think it was also determined that the frames had to be steel as aluminium wasn't strong enough b...

Re: Adjusting wing mirrors
When I bought my first Excel, a 1991 SE, I thought the door mirrors were useless, showing mainly the side of the car. They were no good at all for joining a dual carriageway from a slip road. I then discovered if I held the mirror housing and moved it out away from the car it clicked into place and ...

Re: This week's brave pill on Pistonheads is a Lotus Excel
The author of that piece seems to know what he is talking about. It looks as if Excels really are starting to be priced at a point where most car folk would expect them to be, ie. £10 000+ for a decent example
