Re: 1986 Excel SE

Sad to see you go Andy - but keep us posted on what you do next and do visit occasionally! Thanks for the help you've given on this forum and the great story in Absolute Lotus.

The car looks great; someone on TLF was looking for an SE so I've posted the link to this ad on there.

More digging in the dirt

It started as a few simple jobs to do during lockdown, but for every one I complete there seem to be two more. As the bulb in my fuel gauge had died, I've got the dash out and just replaced the instrument lights with warm white LEDs (look good). I've also fitted an LED to the fibreoptic switch illum...

Re: NEC Lancaster Insurance Classic Motor Show 2020

You're undoubtedly right about some clubs pulling out, Richard.

The recommended number of volunteers (not necessarily on the stand at the same time) is 12; there is no specified minimum.

Re: NEC Lancaster Insurance Classic Motor Show 2020

Just had a message from the organisers. We've been upgraded to a 'detached' 11x11 stand with space for up to 6 cars and 12 volunteers. I will attempt to use my powers of persuasion on those I know; otherwise come on folks - we could have a wonderful display this year despite everything. And thanks a...

Re: NEC Lancaster Insurance Classic Motor Show 2020

I live 30mins from the NEC and would be happy to drop my car (Early Excel) off on to the stand and then come and get it after the show. I could definitely attend the show one, possibly two days but would like to have a look around the show while there. Thank you Darren - that is great news. Will be...

Worth requesting on the Lotus Excel Facebook page too?
Absolutely - good idea. I'm not in the FB group so would you be willing to post something with a link to this thread?

Thanks, Richard

Re: NEC Lancaster Insurance Classic Motor Show 2020

Thanks everybody for your support. As we are still short of volunteers and cars, I'm asking on TLF if anyone there feels like joining us. We'll have to make a final go/no go decision by next weekend I believe.

Yes Tony, but before Elite 50 it's the 40th anniversary of the Excel (2022) and you must be ready for that!

Something always pops up to get in the way...

Contact cleaner/protector

I've posted in the past that I use Rail Zip 2 as a contact cleaner and protector, so far with excellent results. I picked this tip up from Tim Engel (Esprit2) who uses it on his car. It comes in a very small bottle and now mine is exhausted; unfortunately I can't find any for sale in the UK. So I've...

Re: Dash illumination filters

I've just bought a set of LEDs to illuminate my instruments from the same people who supplied my headlight LEDS - classiccarleds.co.uk. They are available in warm white which replicates the look of the original filament bulbs - on my car there are no colour filters. I'm also reinstating my instrumen...

Re: NEC Lancaster Insurance Classic Motor Show 2020

IMPORTANT MESSAGE We have until roughly the end of this month to ensure that we have enough support to put on a display and staff the stand with volunteers. Some people naturally have reservations due to COVID 19, and if you do, respect your instincts. We have warned the show organisers that this is...

Re: Rear wheel alignment / How to access the eccentric adjuster?

Thanks Pete. I've not had good experience at alignment shops; the best one near me couldn't cope with balancing my wheels so it was worse when it came out than when it went in. Whether they'd understand the Excel rear alignment eccentric I'd doubt! As I have a loose gravel drive I'll probably try it...

Re: Clutch issue-hydraulics?

I couldn't engage some gears on my daughter's Twingo (nor could she) and changing the gear oil fixed it. The car had only done 48k but the oil must have been 8 years old.
