Re: Carpets - please help :)

I have a set of Coverdale carpets on order, hopefully made using Ian's improved templates.

I've gone for the Blenheim range which I bought from Coverdale via Amazon.uk for £178 incl P&P. The same set can, inexpicably, be ordered from Coverdale's website for the handsome sum of £231 + £9.99 P&P !

The rack I fitted was supplied by Lotusbits and felt perfect from day one.

Re: Rear noises

Re the exhaust knocking on bodywork as a possible cause. Try sticking masking tape to all areas of the underside bodywork or components you suspect the exhaust could possibly come into contact with. Drive the car for a couple of days and then examine the masking tape for abrasion marks.

Re: Practical Classics Classic Car & Restoration (NEC) 22/3-

Thanks for posting the pic chaps.

I like the Esprit style retro tartan upholstery on the blue Excel 8) . I wonder if that was the car I saw on a trailer heading along the A68 in Northumberland this morning....

Blue Excel, Northumberland

11.45 am saw a Pacific Blue Excel, silver wheels, no registration plates fitted, looked like a 1987-ish model on trailer heading north along the A68 near Minsteracres.

Re: Tyres Good deal on Demon Tweeks Toyo

At the risk of going off topic I’m interested in your findings re your MG ZT tramlining. I bought my ZT new in 2004 and still run it as my daily driver but in all that time I’ve never had any problems with tramlining. I’ve always stuck to the OE 225/45x18 size. Tyres fitted over the years include C...

Re: Tyres Good deal on Demon Tweeks Toyo

Keep us posted on how your Excel tyres perform Stephen.

I've never tried Michelins on my ZT, seems like I'm not the only one who can't bring myself to swap the ZT for something newer!

Re: Tyres Good deal on Demon Tweeks Toyo

A few years ago during a 215/50 drought I ran 225/50 Falken tyres on the rear of my Excel and found they were absolutely fine. I still had the OE 215/50s on the front though. 225 tyres wouldn’t fit on the front of my Excel without catching the inner arch on full lock At the risk of going off topic I...

Re: Which Antifreeze?

When I changed my anti-freeze I did so after taking advice from a (very) old school Lotus specialist based near the south coast. Having said that after reading the articles posted here it appears to me the only 100% risk free option is to stick with using the traditional ethylene glycol anti freeze...

Re: Anti theft

For Pistolpete. I admit I have never tried to start an Excel engine, cold or hot, with the fuel pump electrics disconnected. Starting depends on how much fuel remains in the fuel wells. It is easy to find out how far the car goes. Previously on engine driven mechanical fuel pumps we used to put a m...

Re: Headlights (dim-Dip)..

It was the dim dip control relay I removed. In my experience disabling the dim dip makes no difference to the normal operation of the headlights or their brightness. All the dim dip function does is make the headlamps flip up and glow dimly (less bright than normal dipped beam) when sidelights are s...
