If I were to swap it would be for a brand new Evora but having said that I'd rather have my Excel fully restored with a Lotusbits 2.5 fuel injected engine. Yes a completely rebuilt perfect Excel Celebration , completely standard on the outside and interior ( apart from the steering wheel, gear knob...

I'd be surprised if you need new gears - it's the other bits on the shafts that often cause the problem - synchro/dog rings. Defo worth putting some very good synthetic oil in there as a starting point though - may just help the synchro rings engage more fully in the first place. Pete What are the ...

....Money no object, what Lotus, past or present would you swap your beloved Excel for?

I'm torn between an Evora 400 and Esprit GT3 ( both in metallic orange ) i think the GT3 might just get the nod though.
