Re: Elite restoration begins!

Thanks guys! Hoping to do a trial fit this week. I hope the start cutout switch on it works - Rimmers list them at £273 - for a switch - !!!

Re: Elite restoration begins!

So just a hint of mission creep crept in this week! https://otv07a.db.files.1drv.com/y4mBQZ39Don1MWHRxWA__pZ2sdTe9RcbRSeUSKpEXvOf8EhHbOEi7d2YrcMISUswf8CJ98ipfq6wjdEPOqQslLp5HRNwQgASJOYO32jG6K5jW7xR6PFC0BoNZk3Rm67l2V5NW5JdCYC8jBO_LTWTBZT9WcNX3e1tV9ljf7E9EcQ2dyyIwm2sHjy4UfCRu48y_DifcLjiDeXSjsBoZxAqZDi...

Re: Unusual dashboard?

Ah, so that's where it's from! It may be useful - I was thinking about moving the vents up slightly to make room for some "tweeters" which would work better lower down as they would be less hidden behind the glove box and instrument binnacles - higher frequencies are more directional that bass frequ...

Re: Gearbox removal

It is virtually impossible to remove the gearbox with the engine in situ: You have to move the 'box forward by several inches to allow the propshaft to come out of the bearing/seal at the rear. If you were to move the engine forward by the same amount plus what it takes to get the gearbox input shaf...

Unusual dashboard?

I've recently bought a few Elite spares which included a dash moulding. It has no holes for the vents at each end of the dash. It's not been repaired/recovered. I don't recall ever seeing one without these vents. Any more info out there regarding this?

Re: 1986 Excel SE

I nearly bought a metallic brown one before i decided on the Monaco White one that I have now (came from Mike @ LB). Glad I chose the white one in the end.

Good luck with your search Andy!

Re: First job jobbed - 2 more found !!!

I'll be really interested to see what you make of the leather food Tony. I've been using Autoglym leather balm to try and improve the cardboard-like state of the Elite seats. They are only slightly better now than when I started - after several applications.

Re: Excel wiper motor

Hi Kieran

Sorry - should have updated this thread. I'm sorted thanks, but I'll be needing an Elite rear eventually if you come across one (low level type).

Thanks

Re: Indicator/dip switch

The Elite/Eclat style with the "flared" ends are similar - maybe the same - as the Stag/2500. I might go over the Rimmer's and have a look, but I want switches for the LHD versions - only available on the Stag. I've already got the windscreen wiper switch from the early Excel - with the "square" end...

Re: 1986 Excel SE

That's what I have done Andy - sold the Excel and bought an Elite to restore - really enjoying it. Let us know when you find one. Quite a few Elite restorations underway now :D

Re: Lotus videos

I've seen that before Bash - good isn't it? One car I've always fancied is the coupe version of my Mercedes S350 - the CL - it has active suspension, but everyone I've talked to about it says you need very deep pockets to keep the suspension working after the first 50k miles. Shame.
