Yes - nice to put a face to the name! Forgot to mention that after 40 minutes Zoom chucks you out and you have to log in again via the forum to continue chatting . Not sure why it does that.

Re: New member - Excel SA

That looks really good! I've bought some paint that uses glass beads (like "cat's eyes") to provide the reflective surface but haven't tried it yet. Only had it 9 months

Re: New member - Excel SA

ISTR that they fill with water because they are fitted upside-down on the Excel and therefore the drain holes act as fill holes!

Re: Air Horn faults.

Is GT85 the same as WD40? That's what I squirted into mine! Worked a treat.

Re: New member - Excel SA

You can get adjustable upper links to correct the camber. Good progress though! I left some powder coated parts in a bath of thinners for a couple of days recently - just de-greased them!! All the powder coating was still there

Re: Elite restoration begins!

Got the ZF 'box under the car today. It will fit! Notice I didn't say it fits -. The Excel chassis is subtly different to the Elite - the parallel central "spine" of the Excel chassis is about 40mm shorter to allow the fitment of the later (longer) gearboxes. So I need to do one of two things...

The other way to strengthen it is to add pig skin instead of canvas - that's what the leather expert on BBC's Repair Shop always uses as her go-to strengthening material. She attaches it with contact adhesive.

Re: Elite restoration begins!

Hi Neil - thanks for the offer of the plastic cover - it's that bit which is broken on mine. I'll let you know tomorrow if I need it after I've checked to see if the box will fit in the chassis

Re: Elite restoration begins!

Hoping to get the engine hoist out on Thursday to see what touches what. The prop will defo need modifying to suit the Salisbury diff - I've already had a look at it. Got to order more white/red wire now for the start relay cut-out!

Re: Elite restoration begins!

Stu - it's the 9-pin plug (there's a 2-pin and a 1-pin as well) at the front of the selector assembly. Following Richard's comments I had a look today - the brown wires (with tracers - didn't look at those colours) go closed circuit in park and neutral.

Re: Elite restoration begins!

Thanks Neil - The selector assembly is going to end up as a mish-mash of different parts to make it work/look OK. I've got the selector from an SA but it's not in great condition - the cover with the numerals has a couple of tags broken. I'll let you know if any more info might be useful. Would you ...

Re: Elite restoration begins!

I'd wondered about that. I haven't had the multimeter on it yet! You can still buy the Rists 5-pin connectors for the original switch as well.
