Hi Chris

I'm going on the Sunday. Any idea yet what time you are planning to be at the Lotus stand. It would be good to put faces to posts!

The Pipercross filter looks good 8), but the last thing you want is to be drawing in hot under-bonnet air. The later cars use a modified radiator duct with a pipe to the airbox - I'd go for that setup.

Hi Colin

I understand what you are saying about the shims. Why not just rub down the friction faces an some coarse "wet & dry" on a flat surface (dust mask needed!) to get the extra bit of clearance. Or send them back!

That's also why I put the engine mounts there; the engine's original mounts sit directly over the crossmember. There should be about 1/2 inch clearance between the inlet manifold and the bonnet if my measurements are correct! There's scope to lower the engine further by going to a dry sump, but it's...

I didn't use the original engine mounting points, I welded lugs onto the crossmember to accept Superflex-type bushes in my own brackets; I wanted to reduce torque-induced engine movement to a minimum. The engine is no further forward than the original 4-pot, and although the V8 is heavier, I have go...

By way of a test to see if my Photobucket link works (thanks Chris) and to show off my newly painted chassis :D , here are a couple of photos with the gearbox and spare cylinder block in place (hopefully!) http://i97.photobucket.com/albums/l229/shedman_2006/104_0414.jpg http://i97.photobucket.com/al...

My Chevy V8 weighs about 180kg and it's significantly heavier than the Lotus engine I took out (by about 45kg). I think the Lotus sales people may have massaged the figures to get to 15%!

The AJP engine must be the lightest of it's kind.

I recently replaced the seals on the diff: the rubber had split from the metal just like yours. They're easy to replace but I was surprised how expensive they were, even from SJ Sportscars. The most difficult bit is getting the torque right on the pinion nut; you have to measure the bearing preload ...

Hi Roy

I have a brand new set of EBC sport front discs (grooved and spotted), Green Stuff pads and one reconditioned caliper (offside I think) that I shall not be using. Make me an offer if you're interested.

Hi Guy I live near Nottingham - do you ever get up this way? It would be good to compare notes! I don't have a pallet, but if you can't collect the R154 I'm sure I can sort it. I'm fitting a full roll cage in the car which is triangulated onto the front and rear suspension tops - this will give the ...

Hi Guy I'm using a Tremec TKO 600 - supposed to handle 600lb/ft - and it definitely fits with some minor modifications to the shifter housing. Having talked to several people with experience using the R154, they all said it was good for the road but weak for the track. (ps I have an R154 if anyone w...
