Re: Excel (and Lotus) magazine scans
Richard - glad you enjoyed. Tony - yes, interesting that they chose dustbins as an example of galvanised product and not Porsche 911's, which by the 80's were fully galvanised. From the same December 1983 issue, the Excel competiition page: https://i.ibb.co/b7dzk24/Car-1983-December-Lotus-Competitio...

Excel (and Lotus) magazine scans
I've got a pile of old car magazines (haven't we all?) and hidden in them are a stack of classic Excel and Lotus related articles & pictures. Having some time on my hands recently (can't imagine why!) I've scanned a few in and thought I'd share them. Enjoy! In 1983 Car magazine (wonderful mag, big f...

Re: Cool cars we used to own
Interesting thread this and some great cars. I very much like your Crusader, Peter. I used to be into Imps in my earlier years and always admired the Clan Crusader. Never bought one (or even got to drive one dammit!) though. I also notice that Peter used to own a Sunbeam Stiletto. I also owned a cou...

This is a really interesting car - low mileage, factory special, Essex liveried, ex-Colin Chapman!

Re: Indicator stalk
Thanks very much Tezzan - but don't forget I'm looking to replace the original indicator/wiper stalks with later ones that are on the opposite sides to the 1974 originals - ie with the indicator stalk on the left! I'm bound to continuously operate the wipers at junctions otherwise!! Pete Who...

Re: Indicator stalk
I notice that the Elite/Eclat/Excel interchange spreadsheet on Lotusforums shows the indicator stalk/switch as "Lucas 119SA 30493 Triumph spitfire (1977 - 1980), Stag mk1" so that matches with the suggestions so far. If it's correct, looks like quite a good resource - should we have link to it on lo...

I'm going to add my support to all the others here and say a big "Thank You" to Angus. I'm a junior member here (in forum years if not personal ones), but in the time I've been here, it's very noticeable what a great effort Angus has put in to keeping this place running. In additional to the day-to-...

Re: Request for help - measurement required
Hi Pete So I had a look at my '84 Excel. I think this is the measurement you wanted: https://i.imgur.com/78Sge1M.jpg If so, then on mine it's about 9.5cm from bulkhead to the outside of the heater hose (and also the cast boss of the spigot). ... on the other hand I may have completely misunderstood ...

Re: Hampshire meet up
Echoing the sentiments above - a nice laid-back car event. A good crowd, the right number of cars & people and well run by the organisers. It was an extra pleasure for me, it was the first Excel meet-up I've been to and it was a good one! Great seeing you guys from the forum. Thank you Shaun for the...

Re: Airbox trunking
Hi Pete Yes, Vinyl roof. Sadly wearing thin at the front end :-( Neil Hi Neil Going off topic here but I rather like vinyl roofs when they're appropriate for the car - ie 1970s era and I think the Eclat actually looks good with it. I think I may be a bit sad in this respect because I think they're ...

I'm sure I speak for all UK Excel owners when I express my sympathy for you with the weather conditions you have to endure!

Re: Cam belt - new belt sits to back of the pulleys?
Many thanks again guys for all the responses. In reply to the questions: - When I changed the belt I also used SJ's overhaul kit to service the tensioner, ie bearing, piston, bushes, washers & earth strap (I also changed the PAS and alternator belts btw). - Yes it is indeed the bonnet earth strap th...

Re: Cam belt - new belt sits to back of the pulleys?
Cheers for all the replies guys. Jason - thanks for the suggestion re: the crank pulley, I'll have a look at that. I haven't moved the snubber, I think it's just that the pic makes it look closer than it actually is (I hope/think!). Andy - I'll check the tensioner, thanks. Sirclip & Andy - yes it's ...

Cam belt - new belt sits to back of the pulleys?
So I've managed to change the cam belt on my Excel (yay!). It took me a while - my 1st time and taking a lot of care. Engine starts & runs OK, but I notice that the belt seems to sit towards the back of the pulleys. The whole belt seems to sit quite a way back, noticeable on the cam pulleys but real...
