Re: Coolant mixing or condensation?

Unfortunately I can't put your mind at rest on this as when I had this on my car (only other symptom was losing water but no smoke from exhaust & no water in coolant) it was indeed a HG failure.

Re: Overheating - Cause or effect ?

Thanks for the reply's but due to recent shoulder surgery, a lack of time & space and the fact that I live ten minutes from them I'm going to let Lotusbits have the pleasure.

Re: Overheating - Cause or effect ?

So to follow up on this thread.. Unfortunately, upon removing the plugs and turning the engine over Coolant was squirting out of No1 ! So gutted, even more so as I started a thread on the Facebook Group about number of Elites/Eclat/Excel on the road and now mine isnt ! Serves me right. And of course...

Re: Overheating - Cause or effect ?

Thanks for responses. Yes Angus it is a single cap tank. A guy I work with used to rally 6R4s back in the day and suggested I use a suitable bottle as a catch tank to confirm it is being vented that way. Just to be clear the overheating “spike” only seems to occur from a cold start and happens regar...

Re: Overheating - Cause or effect ?

Thanks for your reply.

The previous owner rebuilt the water pump when the engine was rebuilt 3 years ago (3k miles) but its definately worth a check.

Leak is top rad hose weeps a bit from cold, stat gasket was leaking but that was done 2 years ago.

Overheating - Cause or effect ?

Hopefully someone can help: Had my Excel 3 years now - have a occasionally topped up the coolant but could see the leak so not too worried. Drove the 350 mile round trip to Lotus 70th in September and didn't use a drop of water or oil, and didn't overheat sat in the queue for 45 minutes to an hour. ...

Re: Caffeine and Machine, Ettington nr Stratford Upon Avon

Thanks for the info - perhaps we need to put forward that the Lotus Elite/Eclat/Excel Owners (or just Lotus Owners) become one of their 'featured club/groups' and we can then book a Saturday/Sunday accordingly ??

Re: Caffeine and Machine, Ettington nr Stratford Upon Avon

Thanks Richard - I will see if anyone else responds here and also post it on the Facebook groups once I have an idea of dates.

Think I will call in myself first before organising anything - maybe in the week if I am passing.

Caffeine and Machine, Ettington nr Stratford Upon Avon

This place is getting great reviews from every petrolhead who visits.

Would anyone be up for a Saturday/Sunday mini meet for breakfast here later in the year ??

Re: Value your Excel if you dare!

. . . . The black very early narrow body sat in my yard as it stands in non-running condition without carbs, broken windscreen is circa £2k and continues to go up in value as rarity puts this down as one of 10 or 11 early narrow bodies with iron cross wheel left in existence . . . . . Would my '83 ...

Re: Hawaiis0 in Classic & Sports Car

Just been sent a copy  Thank you Darren. Bonus point for wearing club shirt :D No problem - Only fair considering you stopped on the way to Hethel to give me your spare ticket. If things hadn't gone to plan with the traffic after diverting to meet me, you might not have made it there and this ...
