Re: The Lotus Sprint and its wheels (Egg Clair)

I hadn't realised that the Eclat (and by extension probably the Excel too) had so much more luggage space than the Elite - as a pseudo-estate-ish car I'd have expected the Elite to be more gifted in that department. That said, I did take the opportunity at the NEC in November to compare the Elite t...

The Sprint in the USA was simply a different name for the Eclat, as described above.

Cheers, Richard
I didn't know that Richard - still learning!
So am I. I think I’ll ask to be buried with my old satchel!

Re: The Lotus Sprint and its wheels (Egg Clair)

I'm sure I heard that the Sprint was a cheaper model which, in the UK came with steel wheels. :) The Sprint in the UK was effectively a paintwork option on top of a standard Eclat - which could have been 520, 521 etc as long as it was white! The 520 was the entry level model with a 4 speed box and ...

Re: Winterbottom Run 2023

The English Whisky Company does a good tour, and it's not that far away - between Thetford and Snetterton. https://www.englishwhisky.co.uk/plan-your-visit/#our-tours I had a look at Snetterton for track days/evenings, currently they are only listing dates up to June. Also they only have them on wee...

Winterbottom Run 2023

Let’s have suggestions as to how this year’s event might look. It does seem to work having some kind of event to attend as well as the run and the dinner. It is the Lotus 75th anniversary this year, but there has been no announcement to date of any event at Hethel to celebrate this - will keep an ey...

Re: Elite/Eclat seats - headrest

Another answer from Lotus Remembered - this time Fred Garwood: If it was me I would remove the metalwork from the foam and you should be able to fit that into the cover and then stick the metalwork into place. I seem to remember doing the early excel seats like that. Maybe someone should ask Kenny F...

Here’s one:

Google ‘folding car cover’ and you’ll find more.

Elite/Eclat seats - headrest

I think the original question about fitting the seat cover over the headrest was on for sale/wanted but I’ve received one answer from Graham Howman on the Lotus Remembered Facebook group: Hi Richard, try Fulcher Coach trimmers at Hethersett Norfolk. Now run by Nick Fulcher 's son. Nick, now sadly de...

Re: Elite/Eclat front seats

I have saved an old double mattress foam that feels about the right density (is there a way to test this?) as I think one of the seat squabs is a bit soft on my car. You are welcome to some of this if you need it, and if you find a way to recreate the cushions without too much work, we might be able...

Re: Representing the third generation….

Trevor Knowles just posted this on FB: Quote from Martin Buckley in his deals on wheels column in this month’s Classic and Sports Car magazine when writing about the NEC Classic Car Motor Show, “The folks on the Lotus Elite/Eclat/Excel stand cheered me up about my latest Elite.” OK he didn’t get the...

Re: Representing the third generation….

Just as a quick comment Bash, a large proportion of our calendar sales were from Facebook members last year, and this is a big chunk of our revenue. I am no great supporter of social media, and only use Facebook for the club, but more people are using it these days and so just relying on lotusexcel....

Re: Representing the third generation….

I think there may be a misunderstanding here regarding the future of the lotusexcel.net forum. As I have said, the forum will remain as is, so any fears on those grounds are misplaced. The way things have evolved, it is really the Facebook group that is the home of The Lotus Grand Tourers Club, with...
