a replacement box will be in the regon of 150-200 id expect or you have a go at changing the bearings in yours 40-50 (i have no idea never had to do it on one of these). What i dont get is why when its warm the noise goes away... id expect it to get worse or stay the same... only thing that i can th...

try whipping the fill plug out and make sure you still have enough fluid in.

Does it go silent when you put it in 4th?

I’m gob smacked that you think you will get two cam cover gaskets, a head gasket, a cam belt and tensioner bearing for £50… you wouldn’t get a mass-produced car head set and timing belt for that?!...

i concur...

The internals from a 912 will fit inside the 907 also... crank pistons rods... be careful with liner/piston clearance (on hc pistons) and rear bearing + thrust bearing oil feed... depending on engine number

Ok I’m not trying to get into an argument here... but a couple of points IMHO you will not install a rover v8 (as mentioned one from an automatic sd1 - not a Grif 500), modify and upgrade the cooling system, change "the gearing", find a suitable flywheel clutch/bell housing, upgrade the fuel system,...

installing the rover v8 would cost at least that much... in standard form it will have less power worse econimy and it is heavier, so much so that you will need diffrent springs... if you cant offord to lavish money on your car now, tuck it away somewhere... there not making anymore! prices can only...

id look at the crank case breather first, its directly infront of the scuttle trey... should be piped into the airbox...

it is the 2L part you need although the 2.8 one is much stronger but will need tweaking with an angle grinder to fit in the lotus housing, but well worth dooing...

thatll be an 85my then, so you'll find you have lucas motors, same as a tr7, the park mechnisim is integral and shared via the wireing. they have a tendancy to sease, quite easy to whip out, disasemble and free off and regrease...
