Re: I have bought an 89 Excel SA site unseen

Apologies for the tardy reply... I had LotusBits fit mapped ignition to my Excel some 12 years ago. They used a DTA Fast ECU. It's great. Never had a problem and it makes driving around town much easier since the engine is more responsive at low revs. I considered getting LotusBits to fit injection ...

Re: Hampshire meet up Revival

It was a good day out.
Lots of classics, some dating back to the start of the last century.
Great weather, BBQ style food and a very relaxed happy atmosphere.
Three Excels, plus Sean's excellent (new to him) Esprit GT3, which looked better than new!

Re: Fuel Guage Trim

I fitted a Spiyda anti-slosh damper quite a few years ago, and it works very well. I initially fitted this in the boot and took the electrical feed off the fuel pump. This was not a great idea, since every time the fuel pump 'ticked' the fuel gauge would bounce. I moved the anti-slosh damper to behi...

Re: Hampshire meet up Revival

Thanks Shaun,

I'll be there, probably from 11:00 since there's a car show and parking may be popular :-)

Re: Headlights frying column stalk

I thought LED replacement headlight bulbs were illegal and would not be passed in a MOT.
Perhaps someone here can set me straight on this point.

Re: Insurance

I used Peter Best last October.
Comprehensive, 3,000 miles, £12,000 agreed value, garaged, no claims bonus: £82.51!
The best price I've ever seen in the 20 years I've owned my Excel :-)

Re: New member - new owner

The bolts anchoring the seats are stressed, so make sure you get high strength stainless steel for these. You don't want the seat bolts sheering in the event of an accident. I spoke about this with LotusBits many years ago, but I can't remember the specifics (A2 and A4 are vague memories). Perhaps s...

Re: Distributor pick-up testing

Duncs, About 10 years ago I (or rather, LotusBits :-)) replaced my original 1992 SE ignition system with a mapped DTA ignition system. I still have the original ignition parts in a box, in case any future owners wants to revert to the original. You are welcome to borrow and try these parts (coil, di...

Re: Broken 45 DHLA :(

I have the same problem - broken air bleed screw. This happened some years ago, but since I don't need to adjust this screw (the carbs are balanced without needing to adjust this one) I've not bother to get it fixed. I phoned Eurocard at the time and they said it would cost about £40 (a few years ag...

You may want to look here: Sorry about the weird URL, but it gets you to the PPT that goes through a whole range of options on increasing your Lotus 900 series engine. https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=&ved=2ahUKEwidi7HI7dn0AhX2QkEAHTAzBrcQFnoECAIQAQ&url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww...
