Re: Senna’s Excel

Wow, how to drive an Excel - This is copied from the Lotus World magazine - Jan 1987 Oh, La La Ayrton - Bernhard Schmidt of the German magazine Rallye Racing scored a noteworthy scoop by organising a road test of the Excel SE with Ayrton in the seat. It was arranged by Joachin Bohr, the newly appoin...

Re: Restauration result of a Lotus Excel SE

Well done - the photos look amazing. Does anybody know how many of the l.h.d. European Excels are still on the road?

What type of equipment did you use to measure the AFR?

Re: Elite 4th most beautiful car since 1950

The frontal aspect of the Lotus wedges are stunning!!!

What a far cry from so many new cars on sale today with a grills that have received multiple botox injections and in my opinion are better suited to a Ford Transit van

Re: Practical Classics Classic Car & Restoration Show 2021

A show requires both exhibitors and visitors. I would assume that other exhibitors will be asking similar questions. Keep fingers crossed that against expectations it will be a good show, but in reality, should the show go ahead, there will be less stands and less visitors. I still have the date in ...

Re: Practical Classics Classic Car & Restoration Show 2021

The June date sounds better - hopefully we will be vaccinated up to the hilt and Mr Virus will be confined to the history book.

It will also give me more time to get my car finished. Upholstery work starting very soon!!!

Re: RIP Oliver Winterbottom

Saddened to hear the loss of another member of the team who were instrumental of the Lotus Cars product range on the 1970's. A big thankful to Oliver and the team for getting such great product into production, which sounds so easy. Oliver managed to design some great cars which seem to form their o...

Re: Practical Classics Classic Car & Restoration Show 2021

Ive enjoyed the show in the past - I would think that the show will be well attended as it will be 2 years since the last one. Hopefully my 14 year long Excel project will be complete, or not very far away by then. So with or without car, I would like to help out should a stand be booked. So, I woul...

Re: Headlights

Pete, I chose the projector style for my Excel project because I believed in the advertising hype, and the standard lights on my Elite are pretty poor Can you believe that after 14 years and 1 week the Excel has still not been on the road - so I am unable to give an honest answer. Having said that, ...

Re: Lancaster Insurance Classic Motor Show: (NEC) 9-11 Nov 2

My Excel (well, the majority of it is Excel) is coming along slowly - some work to do with the air con system (manly pipework) and very soon ready for primer.

I still cant give a finish date, but it should be this century!!!

Re: Marcus Horrell's Eclat Excel V8 "eclacco"

I agree with your thoughts about the tail panel canted rearwards, and I personally like the sketch on the top right of Ollies book fly cover – it does seem to work. It was over 10 years ago that I started to modify the back of my car, and from an aesthetic point of view I could not get the rear ligh...

Re: Marcus Horrell's Eclat Excel V8 "eclacco"

The sump heater is there in the interests of engine wear. There is also a built in trickle charger to keep the battery topped up. The car is “hard wired” for both of these. There is a fuel tank filler cap on each side of the car – one side is for fuel and the other has a "caravan plug" multi pin con...

Re: Marcus Horrell's Eclat Excel V8 "eclacco"

Looking forward to meeting many of you again at the NEC Restoration Show on 23 to 25 March. As so many say, is it really 12 months since the last one? Answer, Yes, nearly 365 days have gone by. I was hoping that the car would be finished by now, but its not quite there – Never the less, work has pro...

Re: Marcus Horrell's Eclat Excel V8 "eclacco"

I have read with interest the various comments and observations and I make the following response:- I have an Elite which I plan to keep original, so bearing in mind I have one original car, I don’t feel as concerned when it comes to altering another one. On a trip to get some parts from Mike Taylor...
