Re: How do you check Castor Angle?

I have one of these. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/231965586702?epid=20017005914&hash=item360239f50e:g:UfwAAOSwwNpjdrDO&amdata=enc%3AAQAHAAAA4FuO1DGWw9R%2Fw3ZUoX4pQo4O4h2wydGtITd6d%2Fm9jFBniHu0BMc59Ayt%2BWFTKuz65tnVUgl0jVlU7nXUT8vLIrys6h5ILJ%2FsXJ9a%2FcqLcJZQWEFbr5VKShuigoW68kv2Fv9MCfZwJ04SNkI0waZpWKXE...

Re: Restoration show 2023

Only just caught up with this, as I've never looked at this thread until now. Sorry to hear about this, Pete. I'm the youngest of 8 sibs, 4 of which are brothers. All 3 of my brothers have had prostate pathologies, two have/had benign prostatic hyperplasia, one unfortunately, brother Brian, had adva...

Re: New fans and a question.

I've posted a write up of the Davies Craig EWP80 water pump conversion in the upgrades and mods section.

Davies Craig EWP80 conversion

Here's an outline representation of the write-up I did on my EWP80 conversion many years ago. The original has disappeared from the forum. I didn't replace it so far as it's a pain to do, and the forum may be liable to futurer losses -who knows? My original write-up included details of the impellor ...

Re: New fans and a question.

Can't give you a detailed answer atm...about to watch the last F1 highlights of the season on C4. I've been running a Davies Craig EWP80 since around 2004. I did a write-up on it, but it may have got lost due to changes in forum version and "ownerships". I've developed the system over time (controll...

Re: New Elite owner from Sweden!

Managed to get hold of a window frame and side window. Will finish the installation this weekend :D Just water pump and the fiberglass damage to take care of. Might be done before christmas 8) You may want to keep the std water pump for originality. But just in case you don't (because water pump se...

Re: New Elite owner from Sweden!

Great car collection, Lahi! Can't see a badge on the B pillar to denote if it's a 501, 502, or 503 (it's not a 504). Has it got power steering or air con? Also, being a 75 car, the engine is likely to have "D" cams. In '76 they fitted "E" cams (and changed DHLA jetting and ignition curve) to give be...

Re: Exhaust Cam Timing

Sorry to hear. Are you sure that the cam belt actually shifted, and it's not the vernier exhaust cam pulley that shifted on its bolts (or was not set correctly by the tuners)? Interested to know what revs you were using (rather than road speeds) because at high rpm there is some stretch in the recip...

Re: Relief from de leaf

Lovely part of the world Peter. Our daughter is getting married at Bamburgh Castle next Friday and we’re spending a few days up there (sadly without the Lotus - she’s not up to the taxi and haulage duties!) Cheers, Richard Yes it is beautiful on that NE coast, Bamburgh Castle is to die for inside. ...

Relief from de leaf

Drove to Holy Island today for a jolly in the Excel. Temperatures all good to begin with. Coolant 80 - 82C and oil temperature 70 - 75C. Sixty miles up the A1 temperature is more like 90C fans cutting in even on the move oil temp up to 90C. Stopped at a lay by to investigate. 80% of the nose cone fi...

Re: Coolant level sensor

Before tear-down, why not take a tin-opener to the oil filter to look for bearing material. Similarly, drain the oil and look for metallics there too if none in the oil filter. If no metallics, then remove, strip, and inspect the oil pump and pick-up pipe olive seal. I would have expected to hear kn...

Re: Coolant level sensor

So.. I have swapped the connector to the other terminal on the pressure sender… still zero at idle, however if you blip the throttle the needle moves but stays in the red. Question is, do I have zero pressure of a duff sender? There are no untoward noises. I am fairly sure I can discount a bad eart...

Re: Coolant level sensor

The sensor SINKS the gauge to earth via the internal rheostat - but sensors are not all wired the same way around internally... Some senders provide zero pressure at low resistance (as for Excel), others provide zero pressure at high resistance. IIRC this applies to VDO too (or so called VDO-compati...

Re: Instrumentation gremlins

Also check all common earth connections. Particularly the major earth groups at the chassis, engine and pedal box. These gauges (temp and oil) sink to earth through the sensor. If an earthing point is flaky, then the readings will be flaky. It's possible that both local sensor connectors (temp senso...
